Personality:
Gil is a very spiritual man, to put it shortly. He has always had a natural attraction towards philosophy and matters of the unspoken - the mind, specifically. His parents luckily encouraged this trait of his and allowed him the freedom to explore and dabble in the arts and scripts he desired to come upon. His philosophy mostly revolves around the belief that life is very dynamic - ever changing. Even himself, he came to accept, as a dynamic person. He accepts and highly lives by what he believes is the fact that his nature is ever-changing. Even though he does believe himself to be attached to certain ideals and ideas by strong roots - he came to the realization that someday, even these roots could be easily pulled and torn apart. Another part of his philosophy is a certain perspective on the world that was yet to be changed. That is:
The love for the world - He is a very adventurous, curious person, and has always been. He loves exploring and discovering more of the world. And generally speaking, he does love people. Even when he is angry, or sad, or afraid, he never got the point of actually hating or extremely disliking the entire mankind. He is especially fond of animals - these creatures always aroused a great sense of respect, admiration, and kindness from him. In general, he admires the world greatly. But who knows? Even this, someday, might change. He loves interacting and learning more about others; he enjoys meeting other people and is generally a friendly man. He rarely if ever takes someone seriously enough to be affected by insults; however, he does get angry when the innocent and his dear ones are assaulted in some way, shape or form. He tends to become very protective and loyal to them at times such as these. In these moments, he sometimes need to use a great portion of his mental strength to keep himself at bay; from exploding at others.
A certain love of his was strengthened ever since he was a boy. The love of martial arts. He is a martial artist. While he doesn't describe himself as one, he is undoubtedly a martial artist - a very philosophical one. He is very loyal and dutiful to his dear ones, and would probably always remain one forever. As a man, and a martial artist, he would never hurt the innocent. He would never try to take away a life before trying to find another solution, that doesn't require the life of his enemies. He will greatly respect his opponents. He will meditate and train, both his skill as a martial artist and his mind every day. And he would always remain kind and loyal to himself and to his dear ones.
Gil additionally always loved to observe, watch, listen to others. People, animals, every occurrence, really. The world of the living, though, mostly humans and animals, always intrigued him the most. He is able to sit around for hours, just sitting, observing the presence of others. He loves to do so, to be specific. He is able to sit around for unlimited periods of times, provided he is equipped with enough resources, just studying, observing others. It doesn't come from a place of wanting to spy and follow others - but only of silent, kind curiosity. Being the observant man he is, he learned to greatly appreciate and respect others. Observing others also made him very aware and present at the moment. Even though he is a spiritual man, his spirituality is displayed through the given moment - the universe. He doesn't like to think too deeply of things, as he believes that takes him off of his path as a man. Additionally, he, as a person, believes it is very important to stay true and accept one's feelings and thoughts, and of course, nature. Thoughts, emotions, even nature itself - it is ever changing. And there's no way to stop it. So why fight it? Sometimes he is sad, sometimes he is happy, sometimes he is patient, sometimes he is angry. Everything is welcomed. Everything is accepted. This realization, or rather, acceptance of his, brought him to be able to calm himself down. He is able to be at ease with himself regardless of the situation - and would remain relaxed even in the face of danger.
Gil very much accepts the idea of death. He does not fear it or tries to hide from it. He knows that he could never escape it, and knows that someday death will come looking for him as well. He would defend those who are close to his heart and would reach his goal; even if it would mean death. He additionally knows and wholeheartedly believes that the world is much bigger than he is. He remains humble in the face of the world. Even though he is indeed humble - it does not prevent him from showing confidence in himself. The opposite, actually. Because he is humble in the face of the world - he is able to be confident with himself. Because the world is so large, and he is so small - there is no limit to his growth. Not even he knows the limit of his potential. However, this belief of his, that he has no limits - does not come from a place of cockiness or over-confidence, but rather, from a place of experimenting and curiosity. He constantly wishes to test his borders and limits.
He tends to take leadership with those around him because he is truly confident in his abilities. He does not fear death and would go to extreme lengths just to protect those who are close to his heart. His leadership comes from a place of loyalty and confidence; he is a confident, perceptive and an extremely loyal leader.
Gil would sometimes prefer to remain quiet and when he has things to say - he will speak his mind. He is not generally a talkative man nor a silent one. He is a man that lives in accordance to the given moment. He will speak his mind when he deems it worthy and necessary, even if it's seemingly over the smallest, silliest things - and will sometimes remain quiet when others would speak. He is a truly unique man in his own right. Gil never underestimated anyone because they were of lower status or weaker or in any other way inferior to him - the opposite, actually. He believes that such matters mark no significance in our world. He is very acceptive and fond of others - especially those who are considered taboo or weird in the eyes of society.
There's nothing he likes more than having fun and staying true to his nature. Because of his realization that his nature is dynamic, he came to accept his rather adventurous spirit - whether if it's by approaching ladies, drowning himself in sake or sleeping too much. He enjoys a lot of activities. His dynamic spirit leaves no place for him to be constantly in the same mood. He will sometimes be angry, sometimes sad, sometimes disappointed - and will not try to run away from these feelings. Instead, he embraces them and acts according to his thoughts at the given moment. Again - sometimes - silence, sometimes - he would speak. Depends on the situation, depends on his mood, depends on a lot of factors, really. That's a very integral part of his character - his sudden change in spirit. He is unpredictable, unexpected - unique. In his own little ways, some things always change about him - while some, rarely.
Likes: Martial arts: born and raised a martial artist, Gil would always enjoy these arts. He is extremely fond of and follows the idea of making one's body a weapon.
Approaching ladies: A heterosexual, Gil stays true to his desires. He rarely shies from a girl he is fond of.
Adventures: One of his greatest passions; the will to travel and know the entire world. He was simply born and raised a curious boy.
People: Gil likes to meet and interact with new people. He was raised to care for the others, who were weaker than him. And much unlike most people, he doesn't walk away from people who are considered 'inferior' by the world. He accepts and embraces them. He always loves to meet and interact with new people, and would always stay loyal to his dear ones.
Observing: Gil is a very perceptive man. A weird quirk of his that he noticed when he was a boy, was that he liked to simply watch other people and other living creatures live their lives, and learn from it.
Dislikes: Dishonesty: Gil never liked people who said one thing and acted in a different way. He always felt the need to remain as loyal and true to his own words. Dishonesty is something that he doesn't like at all.
Abuse of the Weak: One of the things Gil nearly hates, is an abuse of the weak. It is something so awful in his eyes, that it simply something that would never be done. Ever since he was a child, he always aimed to protect the weak. However, if there is one thing Gil hates more, is people who have the tools to become strong, but instead, they choose to remain week. People who do not try and fight for themselves, are people he doesn't respect.
Defiance of Self: It is something Gil highly disrespects. People who are too afraid to live their own way of life; people who are resisting their true thoughts and emotions due to fear. It is something Gil disrespects and aims to change, however, and whenever he can; especially in those who he considers close to him.
Moral Alignment: Chaotic Good
History: Gil was born the first son to Layla and Robert D. Wolf in the Foosha Village which is located in the East Blue. His parents were happily married for a year until he was born; they were both 26 years of age.
His first years were incredible; he was surrounded by love and care and was often taken to the sea and to the woods. He grew up with a dog who cared for him greatly; often protecting the young child like an older brother.
When Gil turned three, his father thought it was important for him to learn more about martial arts and strengthening his mind. His father knew that the world is a difficult place to live in. A place that would drive many people insane; hence, he wanted to do everything to make his son stronger mentally. They started training both Gil's body and mind ever since he was three. It started with short meditation sessions and simple Kata (martial art drills) that his father taught him. Ever since he was three years of age, Gil was always very curious and fond of others. He bonded with other children, and even though he was sometimes rejected, he knew how to deal with these negative emotions.
When he was six years of age, he was now practicing longer meditation sessions and started performing exercises that would strengthen his body. He began sparring against his friends and his father, and though he never won against his father, he was always the superior fighter amongst the local children. He enjoyed fishing, exercising and camping when he was a child. He started working as a cabin boy for his father's friend, who was a merchant, ever since he was 7 years old. He had learned that money is not easy to earn, however, it is not something that is impossible to acquire.
When he turned 10, he was already a strong boy; stronger than average, at least for his age. He was now doing portage job along with his father, and constantly practiced both meditation and martial arts when he was a child. He loved this time period. He often picked fights with people who tried to bully others on the village, and was mostly getting his arse beaten; however, he never stepped away from a fight whenever he felt like he needed to fight.
The next few years until now were filled with many adventures of Gil around the small area that is called the East Blue. He often tagged along as a worker on his father's friend's ship and got to know more and more of the world. Whenever he had the chance, he stepped out and traveled more place. During these adventures, he was exposed to people of all shapes, sizes, and characters; violent people, calm people, pirates, marines; he got to know more of the world that was outside of his little village. However, it was still not enough for him. He wanted to travel the entire world. He wanted to sail all of the seas and learn about every culture out there. He wasn't shy about picking fights with strangers, even if it meant he'd lose a lot, which happened quite often, however, from every loss he learned more and more and his willpower became stronger.
It was lately that Gil has read the news about the death of the Pirate King. It was someone Gil always wanted to learn more about, and eventually join; and when he died, he was finally convinced that now was the time he would sail the seas. Even if he doesn't have anyone yet who would sail with him, he would sail alone. He would find someone. The Pirate King was an inspiration; a far dream that he hoped to someday study. Now that he died, he knew it; he felt it. He felt the sea calling him!
Face Claim: (fan art of) Gon Freecss, a character from Hunter x Hunter.
RP Sample: It was a late morning hour when Gil opened his golden eyes, only to discover a new bed. It wasn't really a discovery; more of a morning reminder that this bed was indeed new to his eyes. Memories of last night started raining down hard; however, not all of them. Just a memory, accompanied by an excruciating feeling of pain in the stomach and neck, of a knife making its way to Gil's body. And, well, a pretty nurse who gave him a special medication. And after that: Nothing!
However, the young man knew how to deal with it. It wasn't the first time something like that happened. Not at all! After all, it is not the first time he had woken up in a cabin after fighting someone before. Well, usually hospitals cost a lot of money; something that, at the time Gil was 16, he was not in a sufficient possession of. He was additionally not surprised to eye a crewmate of the ship he was working on lying there, next to him. He yawned loudly, waking up the man next to him - a friend, Julian. Julian was a morning person. Someone who could wake up easily from everything. Julian sat down from his lying position and nodded at the green-haired man - much to his surprise. It meant that Gil had done something last night, something that he doesn't remember. After all, it wasn't the first time he was awkwardly nodding at the golden-eyed boy like that.
"You should thank god we found this place, man" Julian muttered as he stretched his back, letting out a few loud cracks; much to Gil's satisfaction. Gil wasn't surprised by this statement, really. It was so frequent that this crew would somehow get in trouble, mostly because of him; that he just tagged along with it and preserved a calm demeanor.
"You started a fight again, man. No wonder you probably don't remember it clearly. You got bashed in the head by a rock after you got slashed and stabbed three times" and then, it hit him. The exact memory of the fight. Something that, well, happened quite often. Before he calmly began reviewing it in his mind, Gil cracked a massive smile on his lips and tapped Julian's shoulder. This man saved him so many times, but all he could do is smile at him warmly and tap his back. Julian shook his head and sighed; leaving to light a cigarette outside. Gil felt sorry for the guy who's saved him time and time again; however, Gil would do the same for him, at any given moment. After all, he was his best friend.
The fight that happened the night before wasn't something that was unlikely to happen, at least, in young Gil's life.
He was drunk when the crew was given some time off at the town they were in. He blurringly saw a man threatening a woman; a beautiful woman! He was trying to assault her. He approached the man running and started to shout at him to let the woman go. The man was taken by surprise and pulled out his knife; however, it was too late. Gil has managed to land a headbutt and a few good punches to the throat. It was only a second or so before he was hit by a rock on the back of his head a few times, slashed in the neck once and stabbed three times in the stomach. The attackers left quickly as they carried their friend, who tried to assault the lady, and Gil's friend, Julian, spotted him a minute or so after he was stabbed and carried him to the closest medic.
Luckily for Gil; he was a strong man. Both in mind and body. He hasn't lost too much blood, and he was able to be saved by the nurse. She gave him a sleeping pill after she has finished to clean and bandage his wounds, and he was sent to sleep. That was the story of the night before.
Gil limped towards his friend, who was outside, taking another drag from his cigarette. He sat next to him, leaned back in a seat he had taken close to him, and smiled. Smiled a genuine smile. Firstly, because the man was there next to him; after saving his arse once again. Secondly and most importantly; because Julian wasn't injured. Julian eyed him and shook his head once again, this time, chuckling a bit. After all, it was indeed funny. "Come on, pretty boy. Let's get something to eat" Gil said warmly to the taller man, who nodded excessively and prepared to stomp on his now almost finished cigarette.
And with a smile, a giggle and a best friend - a night of violence ended. And the best thing was; Julian was alive and well.
