Vaetric let out a grunt as he fell on his cushioned behind in the crew’s quarters. Usually he was pretty good at keeping his balance, but this storm was something else; it kept most of the sailors up above busy as they tried to reign in their ship. The Island they were going to- Storm Well Cove -was supposed to be the site for some survival training between recruits and some leaders, except the Captains and above of course. Why would they? At least the chore boys were just told to stay below deck until the storm went away- or they were called. It was rather embarassing when it first came, he was actually sleeping when a large wave apparently jostled him out of his bed, tangled in blankets. Luckily most of the marines didn’t have time to laugh or even look at him as they had also fallen out of their beds. The Captain had rounded up almost everyone and led them above deck. Until further notice, the chore boys had to just scoop excess water from the hull. “Ow..” He muttered, hauling himself up and rubbing his behind. He was sure Erik wasn’t looking, if he was, he didn’t want to embarrass them both by glancing at him. They were given buckets, and mostly wet trousers due to the leaks.
“Huff.. How is it.. Over there?” He asked Erik, who should also be working with him, though he didn’t really get the chance to check. His feet were sore due to the moving around without shoes, his feet and most of his trousers were wet. Today wasn’t a fun day for him, or anyone probably. He could hear the shouts of the Captain up above deck, ordering his men to do.. Thing that were kind of hard to hear due to being below deck. He glanced out of the window, and could see only the sea for a few seconds before the ship rocketed back up again. Nothing bad darkness and clouds in an empty void. How early was it? He yawned, before hauling the bucket onto his shoulders, slowly blinking as it fell backward in slow motion and splashed over the back of his trousers. …Great, now his butt was wet. He sighed tiredly, scooping up some more water before going up to a higher deck to remove it. “Back.” He grumbled when he returned, rubbing his eyes and yawning again. “Ugh.. This storm is annoying.” He muttered to Erik, should he be there/still be there. Their ordeal would go on for a a fair couple of minutes, having to scoop the water out of the bottom deck while the rest toiled upwards.
Vaetric would wince as a ray of sunshine hit his face from one of the windows, the sun was rising, but the sea didn’t seem to want to relent, all they had to do was wait until the bad clouds went away, then it might, just might, be an okay day for them. More minutes would past, the wind howling against the ship. The thunderstormed seemed to be wanting to get as much mileage out of its rage as possible, the wind smashing against the ship, causing supplies to jostle around left and right. Vaetric’d lose his balance a bit again, yelping as he fell over onto anything and most likely everything considering he’d try to get back up again. This’d continue for a dozen more minutes, the sea trying its absolute hardest to knock the ship out of (and into) the water, the wind howling as if angry. Vaetric’d simply hold on to the nearest thing he could find, hoping it’d end soon. Eventually, and luckily with nothing permanently destroyed, it will. The weather eventually clears a little, leaving a light shower with sunlight breaking through. Everything was a bit of a mess. Vaetric stared at it all in dismay as he slowly got up, before they heard a shout. “Everyone to the top deck!” It was the Captain’s voice. Vaetric glanced at Erik, before shakily climbing up the stairs.
The Captain gave a stony glare at the Marines before him once they had all arrived. “I don’t know how, but we survived without the ship sinking. Too slow, all of you!” He snapped, before taking in a breath. “But, we’ll be arriving at Storm Well Cove soon, where your training exercise will begin.” Vaetric felt a sense of dread as he spoke. Did that mean.. Him and Erik had to join in on the training? “No, that doesn’t include you, Choreboys. You’ll be carrying supplies.” Vaetric sweatdropped, that sounded somehow even worse. “We’ll be making landfall soon.” He said. “How soon, Sir?” Asked a recruit. The Captain peered behind them. “About five seconds.” . . . . . Suddenly, the ship lurched and came to a halt, grinding against the wood, causing Vaetric to almost lose his balance. Should Erik be near him, he’d try to latch onto him for support, blinking for a moment to realise what he’d had done, before gently moving back. “U-Uh.. Sorry.” He said, blushing a bit and rubbing the back of his head. Now that the sun had risen, they could see the small port town that made up their entrance into the island. The plateaus gazed ominously down at them, shiny due to the recent rainfall and the sun. “Well? What are you waiting for? Get moving!” The Captain yelled, and the Marines began to jog in formation off of the ship while some of the ensigns tied up the ship to the pier to make sure it didn’t move away. “You too, choreboys!” He said to them as he moved passed them.
Vaetric glanced to Erik. “Uff..” He huffed as he moved over toward the gangplank that had been raised down for them, going first as he carefully made his way down. “Be careful, it’s slippery.” He called up to Erik as he was half way down.

This storm was no joke. The marine ship was getting bombarded left, and right with harsh waves courtesy of the storm above. To be expected since they are en route to the infamous Storm Well Cove. Erik along with Vaetric were at the lower deck scooping water from leaks that have sprung as the other Marines were above with the captain, most likely keeping the ship from turning over. "Tch..." Erik was having difficultly keeping his footing thanks to the constant rocking, however he wasn't falling over like his friend. Dubois scooped up a bucket full of water, and made his way quickly upstairs, making sure to be careful enough not to slip over. He threw the water out, and was on his way back down until he caught a peek at the other Marines working hard to keep the ship afloat while the Captain barked orders. Dubois watched for a bit, feeling a little jealous. He wanted to be up there with the others, doing this kind of work like a real Marine, but instead he was stuck below deck doing chore boy stuff. It wasn't too bad however since he now had Meri with him.
Coming back down, Erik noticed Vaetric falling on his butt, but before the green guy could say if everything was alright, the blond got back up, and went right back to work...not without rubbing his behind at first in which Erik quickly diverted his eyes. Erik continued down, and started to scoop more water into the bucket. He stopped about half way once he noticed the mumbling voice of the captain above deck. It's hard to make out, but with what Dubois saw up there, he knew what was going on. Yet again, Erik found himself daydreaming about becoming a great Marine, doing all that kind of stuff those Ensigns were doing up there. Heck, he even dreamed about being a Marine Captain himself, although not one that just stood back, barking orders like the one up there, but one who stuck by his men, and shared the pain with them! "U-uh..huh?" Erik absentmindedly answered Vaetrics question although with not one of the best responses. "Er I mean, fine! I'm surviving!" he chuckled sheepishly before attempting to scoop up more only to end up dropping the bucket, and losing his progress. Letting out a sigh, Erik crouched down, and picked up the bucket, scooping again.
"Yeah, just imagine what it'll be like once we get to the island."
Erik commented. They were going there for some sort of training if he remembered correctly. Well, the Ensigns were, and not these two chore boys which to most would be a blessing, but Erik felt upset about it since he wanted to be out there doing that sort of exciting stuff, no matter how dangerous it was. The two continued with there work, going back and forth with bucket in hand to control the water below deck until light from the sun decided to beam down not only getting the blond, but the Dubois as well who instinctively held his arm up to shield his eyes, but dropped his bucket in the process. Thankfully it was empty this time around. "We must be getting close..." Erik commented. Although he wasn't all too skilled at it like the captain, Dubois does have some navigating skills under his belt which was enough to get by when it comes to most islands in the Blue. The ship started to rock harder as Erik attempted to pick his bucket back up, leading him to leave it alone, and hold onto the closest sturdy thing to keep from falling on his butt like a certain someone has been doing. He shut his eyes tight preparing for the worse, but luckily it all seemed to have ended with no real damages. Erik opened his eyes, and stood back up straight before looking over to Meri. "You okay, Vaetric?" he asked. He was in the middle of walking over to the blond until he heard the familiar yelling of the captain calling them above deck. He looked up at the stairs then back to Vaetric. "Guess we're needed." Erik smiled lightly before traversing up the stairs with Vaetric.
The two were now up there with the other Marines, listening to the Captain's usual grumpiness. The moment the captain mentioned the training, Erik's eyebrows perked a bit as a grin started to develop. Could it be? It sounds like the captain was going to let them in on the training after all!!
Unfortunately, that wasn't the case....
Erik almost instantly lowered his head in defeat as soon as the captain spoke up about the two of them only coming to carry supplies. Too good to be true it seems. Erik didn't even notice the conversation that happened next, and was taken off guard by the ship coming into contact with the deck. He nearly lost his footing, but managed to gain it, but once again nearly lost it as he felt something grab against him. "Ehhhhh...?" He looked over to see Vaetric who quickly got off of him, and apologized. "It's...you're fine..." Dubois said nervously while scratching the side of his cheek with a finger, blushing lightly. The two were friends now sure, but Erik still found it difficult to be...this close to Vaetric at times. The captain quickly interrupted by barking out more orders to get going. The Ensigns marched off, and soon the two chore boys followed. Erik even tried to mimic their marching like he does at times. Dorky, but that was his thing. Unfortunately, this was not the greatest of ideas, leading him to slip up while on the plank, tumbling down on a collision course to Meri.
Uh oh...

It seemed as though even Erik was having trouble with the Storm as it raged around them, albeit he kept a much better grip on his foot coordination. Vaetric had filled his bucket not soon after Erik had left, noticing him standing there as he moved to return to the lower deck, aiming to give him a pointed glance, then to the Captain. Surely he knew how the Captain would react to him slacking? It was then that he fell on his backside after arriving downstairs. Today wasn’t a good wake up. The air was moist and unpleasant, making falling into the water when he fell even worse. Erik said he was surviving, though Vaetric noticed with some dry amusement that he was having a bit more trouble than he admitted, dropping his bucket and so forth. The ship was making him a little dizzy, he wasn’t used to this kind of weather; though he was fast regaining his balance. “Ufgh..” He shuddered to Erik’s reply about the island. His legs were a bit sore from running up the stairs, if it weren’t for the fact that they’d die if the ship sank, he would’ve whined.
Finally, they had made it to land.
Unlike Erik, Vaetric was carefully traversing the slippery deck, unlike the recruits and above, they didn’t really have very good shoes for this kind of thing, non-stick. They could march anywhere, or at least, as far as Vaetric was aware they could. He saw some marines march across an icy lake without skidding over, which was interesting to watch as he had once tried the same thing, only to fall on his behind, which cracked the ice and made him fall into the water. Much laughter was shared that day- by the other marines, Vaetric had spent the next few days after that as a human heater, generated by his embarrassment. He was nearly there, though. Just a few more steps, luckily only Erik was behind him, but still, he didn’t like to keep people waiting. “Almost..” he began, before his eyes widened in shock as Erik came falling down toward him. “E-EH-” He began, only to spray out as he was stuck in the back by a falling Erik, causing him to fall flat on his face with Erik pinning him down, on top of him. He slipped his head from the floor, a red comical mark over his face. “O-Ow…” His nose felt numb, but nothing was bleeding, and he didn’t THINK it was broken. “Ugn..” He moaned in pain. Erik was up on top of him, which caused not a little discomfort, and his face had recently been slapped against the floor. Luckily for him the wood was relatively soft due to the recent thunderstorm, or else it could’ve been worse. He tried getting up, pressing his body into an upward position, but found he was in a bit of a weak spot, his arms were fully stretched downward, and trapped beneath his own stomach. Great, then the other marines’ll be able to see them in the stupid position. He closed his eyes and resigned himself to laughter.
No laughter came however, instead he and Erik were hoisted up by the Captain, his steely eyes glaring down at them. “Perhaps I SHOULD bring you two in for training, if you’re going to trip up on every little thing, Dubois, Meri.” He growled, before placing them back down. He turn turned stiffly and marched back to the Marines under his command. Vaetric rubbed the back of his elbow awkwardly. “U-Uh.. Uhm.. I..” He mumbled, he didn’t like being admonished, though technically they were just given a backhanded comment, but it still made him feel bad. He glanced to Erik. “We.. We’d better.. Uhm.. Get moving.” He said, beginning to jog toward the port, where the main marine base was. The Marines had lined up in front of the Marine building. “-o, you had your rest on the ship. We’ll be heading out immediately. Strap on your bags, Lieutenant, you’re in charge now.” The Captain said, having responded to someone’s question, before walking into the building. The Marine turned to the others, scratching his cheek. “Eh, you heard the man.” He said with some sweatdrops on his forehead. “Put on the bags, which’ll have your survival supplies and tents. Most of you will be carrying your weight. Uuh.. Choreboys, since you’re not actually a part of this training, you’ll be carrying the spare tent and supplies- just in case-, then you’ll make your way back here. So long as you follow the path, you should be fine.” He said, then gesturing to the bags. Vaetric let out a sigh. “What was that?” The Lieutenant asked innocuously, or at least, it seemed to be. “J.. Just breathing.” Vaetric straightened up. “Right, now get moving.”
There were two bags to be shared between Vaetric and Erik. The one on the left, which held the tent for one and its supplies, and the one with some cooking, spare boots, and anything else one requires to survive in the wilderness. “Remember everyone, if you ever get lost, just find the path, if not, there’s a bigass mountain over there, go to that then you should have a clear view of your surroundings, either go to here, or the town on the far cliff of the other side of the Island, which is our destination.” The lieutenant said. “Everyone ready? We’d best get moving, then.” Vaetric glanced to Erik. “Uhm.. I’d best.. Get the tent.” He said, picking it up. It was rather heavy, containing the obvious as well as some other things like a lantern, but once he put it on his back, it felt almost like nothing. He was a pack mule, he noticed in dismay. He could feel the pack resting on the bottom of his back. He noticed the other Marines lining up to move into the woods. “Let’s get this over with.” He huffed to Erik, then moving toward the Jungle.

Poor Erik attempted to regain his footing after slipping up, but the darn plank was just too slippery. He found himself crashing right into Vaetric's back, leading the two to fall onto the moist wooden dock in a rather awkward position. "Ow, ow, ow..." Erik managed to lean his upper body up by unknowingly placing his hands upon the blond's back. He then raised one up to rub against his forehead. It didn't hurt that much thanks to the...cushioned landing, but it still stung. "Geez, we need better sho-" Before he could finish, Erik would raise his head some, and finally notice that it was Meri who unfortunately broke his fall. "Eh..Uh..V-Vaetric!" Erik flustered, realizing the predicament the both of them were in. It was like one awkward moment after another when it comes to these two! Dubois was having trouble finding something to say, and in return completely forgot about actually getting up since it's pretty obvious that Vaetric isn't in the position to do so. Luckily, or the opposite depending on how one looks at it, the captain was still there to pick up the blundering chore boys.
"S-sir!" Erik immediately turned around, and saluted the captain just as he begun to speak. Despite the embarrassing situation, Erik still wants to look professional around his superiors even if he slips up from time to time.
Pun not intended...
The moment the captain brought up considering having the two join in on the training, Erik's eyes lit up, but still tried his best to keep his excitement at a minimum, but it was obvious by fire in his eyes that he would be looking forward to it. Sadly that didn't seem like the case as the captain just marched off to where the others went. Erik continued to salute until the captain was far away before dropping his arm, and sighing in a mix of relief from not being on the captain's radar anymore, and defeat for not being able to get in on this special training, lowering his head in the process. "Huh? Oh...yeah." he looked up to Vaetric, and nodded.
The two arrived to the others just as the captain was giving orders. Erik crossed his arms as he watched the captain walk off then bringing his attention to the one he left in charge for this training, the Lieutenant. The more Erik listened to this, the more envious he grew about not being a part of it. He perked his head up a bit as the Lieutenant gave him, and Meri an order. Carrying the extra supplies? Erik looked over to Vaetric who was in the middle of sighing. He then placed a hand underneath his own chin, and looked down, pondering a bit. Why not turn this chore work into a form of training for the both of them. With that, a slight grin came up on his face as he saluted the Lieutenant. "We won't let you down, sir!" Erik claimed just as the others started to head off. He once again looked over to Vaetric, and nodded to what he said, a surprising sense of determination now written all over his face. "Sure, but we shouldn't take too long, and trail behind." Erik claimed as he jogged over to the other bag, picking it up with a light grunt before putting it over his back. He was now jogging in place, looking over to Vaetric with a light grin. "Let's take this as an opportunity to train too, yeah?" Erik asked, but instead of waiting for an answer, he let his love for being a Marine get the better of him, and started to jog off, attempting to catch up with the others.
Why should the higher ups have all the fun?

Vaetric winced a little as he saw Erik was determined to turn it into training, jogging off ahead of him. He let out a small sigh. "Ufgh.. This is going to be tiring." He bemoaned to himself. He trodded along toward the forest path. The storm was headed off in a different direction, but its after-effects were still there, the trees were slick with moisture, the grass and path looking a little muddy as if watered, but not for an extensive period of time that it had fully sunk through. At least, that was what it was for the path itself, who knew what the jungle itself was like? The beaches looked rocky, and he was sure the marine base they had joined was beneath a rock formation, this didn't look to be a fun island. Not at all. Not one bit. The wind was blustery, having very recently passed a storm, and there was almost immediately a steep incline in the plateaued path. After the first minute on the road into the dense forest, where all manners of creatures (aka insects) would make.. Noises, not to mention the birds squawking loudly up above. Vaetric huffed as he noticed the marines in the distance with Erik not too far behind, hurrying to catch up with them. "So tired, the storm woke us up so early." He grumbled as he eventually caught up with Erik.
It wasn't soon after that they'd find themselves moving upward, as the path had brought them to a steep incline of a plateau, Vaetric's legs burnt a little as they began almost crawling up the path, careful not to slip back down. The path had become stone, but it was still wet. Vaetric actually didn't mind it too much, although exhausting, he generally made big steps when going up, it was probably one reason why his legs were a bit... Larger than usual. Then again, he didn't usually have much opportunity to properly work, or get actually exhausted. The last time he did it he felt as though he was breathing blood and he was going to die. "It's.. Pretty.. Cold." Vaetric huffed to Erik. And cold it was, the brisk morning air whistled amongst the trees as they made their way higher up the plateau.
"Only a few more ridges 'til we enter the mountains, Ladies!" The Lieutenant said. Vaetric peered up, there was a large cliff-like slope up to their left, and a steep edge to their right, with a nice view of the sea. Unfortunately, it was the side facing the storm, which seemed to have gone off to vex some other island, travelling quickly of into the wind. Good. "Uff.. Stupid storm." Vaetric grunted. As if sensing his insult, the wind changed. The storm began to move back toward the island, to which Vaetric sweatdropped. They'd made it to the second ridge by now, and they were pretty deep in the island. "Uh.. Erik?" He muttered to his fellow Chore boy, aiming to grip and tug at Erik's shirt as he pointed toward the stormclouds, having turned around to slap a bi*ch. The Marines didn't seem to notice, they just continued running, oblivious to the Storm coming back. "Maybe we sh-" He said, before a particularly strong gust of wind buffeted his face, causing him to lose a bit of balance. Unfortunately, the wind also seemed to dislodge a rock. Vaetric happened to be running on that rock at that exact same time. Doubly unfortunately, if he was successful before, he was still gripped onto Erik's shirt. In a panic, he'd try to hold onto Erik, though the combination of their backpacks probably meant Erik was going down with him. Whether he did or not, none of the other marines noticed as Vaetric tumbled down the slope. "Agh! Ugh! Wugh! Agh!" He yelped with each bounce.
He fell below the treeline, culminating in him landing on his buttocks in a bush. "Oooow.." He grumbled, although he got a few bumps, most likely a few bruises, maybe a couple of scratches due to the bush, he was otherwise unharmed. At least, he felt unharmed. His legs didn't feel broken, his arms didn't feel broken, his neck definitely didn't feel broken. Hands and toes were fine. Okay, he was fine. He rubbed his head as he looked around. He could see leaves, leaves, and more leaves. He couldn't see Erik, either he let go of him as he fell, or Erik managed to keep his balance and stay with the rest of the marines. He'd feel bad if Erik fell with him, but he also felt a twinge of apprehension of the thought of him being alone in a forest. Who knows what could happen to him without it ever being discovered? The ridge looked too steep for him to climb up, though obviously, it wasn't steep enough that he could break something while falling, the backpack seemed to have survived the fall. "Uffgh.. Erik?" He asked as he clambered out of the bush, looking around as he searched for his fellow green haired chore boy. Now that he was out of the bushes, he could see trees.. Trees.. And more trees. They were in a dense forest. It was kind of dark, even with the sun shining down, the leaves were obscuring it. This wasn't going to be very fun, he didn't even know which direction they were in. His best bet either way was following the slope and hoping that they'd meet someone, or a village maybe. Or even finding his way somehow to the marine base?

"One, two, one two."
Erik mumbled to himself while continuing to jog. There was still some distance between him, and the other marines ahead of him, but the determined chore boy didn't let that get to him. He continued to jog at his on pace with no signs of giving up. This was the type of thing he enjoys other than drawing, and reading of course. His growing navigational skills doesn't really fall under this category as Dubois is mainly doing it to feel more reliable, but at the same time he doesn't really hate it. Erik would hear Vaetric making his way beside him, keeping a similar pace. This led to a small smile developing on Erik's face since he was glad that Vaetric didn't decide to back down. They did promise to become stronger together after all. "Aww, don't be like that." Erik claimed with a light chuckle before bringing his attention back forward. "Just think about it. Soon we'll become so strong that this will be a cakewalk to us." Dubbois said confidentially with a determined smirk on his face. It was already sort of a cakewalk to Erik since he's been doing this for a while, but he still has much to learn just like the blond beside him.
Soon the straight path would be taking a much more upward turn. To some, running upward felt more agonizing compared to downhill or straight, but things were just getting better in Erik's eyes. As he continued to run he looked at the backs of the marine's shirts ahead of the two, each one showing off the kanji for 'JUSTICE.' One day, Erik will also be like them, 'branded' with that very same symbol, showing the world that he is a hero as well! "Hm?" Erik looked back over to his complaining partner. It honestly felt pretty chilly, but it didn't seem that Erik noticed since he was mainly tuning that stuff out at the moment. "It's just a little...breeze...Vaetric." Dubois claimed, his breathing increasing a little from the continued running. Upon hearing the Lieutenant, Erik grinned lightly, and glanced back at Meri. "See? We'll be there...soon. Just gotta keep it up." Erik claimed confidently, but it appears as though Mother Nature has other things in mind.
Unlike Vaetric, Erik was oblivious to the vengeful storm making its way back to the island since he was obviously more focused on the jog. Dubois would've secretly embraced the storm if he knew most likely since it would add in another challenge to all of this. "Gah!" A sudden strong gust of wind would blow by, causing Dubois to nearly lose his balance. Whether he'd actually lose it, or regain his footing will never be answered because while this happened, Vaetric grabbed onto Erik, trying to use the green marine to keep his balance, but unfortunately it would lead the both of them to start tumbling down slope!
The moment Erik hit the ground back first, he didn't lose consciousness, but felt a little dazed, seeing double. He groaned, moving his legs a bit, but not attempting to sit up until his eyes focused, only seeing one sky as opposed to two. "Ngh.." Dubois sat up, rubbing the back of his head. Nothing was broken thankfully, but his back hurt which was to be expected. "That was some fall..." Erik mumbled. He'd get himself back on his feet, and take a look around his forest like surrounding. "Vaetric?" Erik said, seeing as he was the only one here. He could've swore the both of them fell together. Perhaps they got separated during the fall? He also noticed something else was missing as well. "Oh...oh no..."
Erik screamed out, causing the nearby birds to fly off from getting startled. His hands were against the sides of his face as he shook his head repeatedly. This was bad! He couldn't arrive to the Marine Base without them! The captain, and lieutenant would never let him live it down! While this was happening, something lurked within the bushes nearby...its eyes peering out through them, staring at Erik menacingly.

Vaetric felt a little bruised, his legs still felt exhausted from their jog, he should make sure he gets some rest. But the problem was, he was stranded in an island known for its (or at least, what he heard was known for) bad weather. Stormy weather. It wasn't good. He glanced around himself, some dirt was on him, particularly where he landed which always seemed to be the behind area, but he didn't want to brush it off without a water source to clean his hands. Maybe some dew from a big leaf? He shook his head. Erik didn't even seem to notice the storm, he should find and warn him.
He then remembered why he was down there, to begin with. A rock was displaced while he was standing on it.. Then he accidentally dragged Erik down with him! He suddenly felt his heart leap to his throat. Was Erik okay? He wouldn't know what to do with himself if Erik had been seriously hurt because of him, or worse killed. He looked around, there were forest-like trees, he wasn't really quite sure what kind they were. Oak? They looked rather sturdy, maybe he'd be able to climb up onto one to scout the area? The only problem was, the forest was thick, he doubted he could see much more than a couple of metres away. He'd have to find an opening, or just wander. He looked up to see the sun shining through the leaves. Wait, wasn't it supposed to be in the morning? Further out, he could see only a stretch of darkness. He thought back to when they were on top of the slope. The dark clouds had stretched for... As long as he could see, actually. Did.. Did they sleep throughout a lot of the day because the clouds simulated night? He really, -really- didn't want to not be in the shelter for when it came back.
"Eriiiiik?" Vaetric called, almost ready to shout for it, but shouting hurt his throat, and who knew what kind of... Things could be out there? Maybe he'd hear Erik calling for him? He moved to take a step, only to fidn something hard. He blinked and bent over, retrieving his mop from the muddied earth. "..Huh.." He mumbled to himself, twirling it a few times. He didn't even realise he'd taken it with him, his hands must have been gripping onto it subconsciously. Well, at least he had something to ward off anything that might try to hurt him. .. Though he'd prefer something a little more deadly, like a sword.. Or something like that, rather than being able to just.. Poke someone or hit something over the head with a stick.
He heard someone shouting, which he recognised to be Erik's voice. "Huh?" He mumbled, was he in trouble or something? He couldn't quite distinguish the words. He felt a lump on his throat. What if Erik was in trouble? He felt stuck a little, before shaking his head. If Erik needed help, then he should go help him, that's what Erik'd do for him.. he thought. He at least knew where the shouting was coming from, all he'd have to do was follow it. He began jogging toward Erik's voice, the adrenaline causing him to forget his sleepy legs for now as he weaved amongst the trees and bushes, still carrying his bag on his back.
He quickly came across Erik, who looked to be rather distraught. Thanks to the lack of leaves in the area, he was rather quiet despite his bodily predicament. He noticed something in the bush in front of him, but to the side of Erik. A wolf, ready to pounce! "E-EriK! Watch out!" He called, spinning to deliver a cracking blow to the Wolf, who took the mop to the hindquarters. And was more surprised than hurt, causing it to whimper and scurry off into the woods. "Ufgh.." Vaetric mumbled, bending over a little to rest his hands on his knees to catch his breath. "It.. Looked like.. It was gonna... Attack." He explained. "Where.. Are we?" He asked, glancing around, somewhat red-faced as the sky started to darken a little with the return of the storm. It looked as though they were going to have to deal with it all over again. It was a good thing he still had the tent. "Oh, uhm.. Where's the uh.." He asked, albeit faltering a little as he pointed to Erik's back, where the backpack should be.
In the dark of the woods, however, more beady eyes looked upon Vaetric' enticing rear, more than likely to feet a pack for a day, if not two, if wolves could think in that manner. It began to ready itself, not noticing Erik due to the brush as it leapt out of the treeline, heedless of its pack member's whimpering as it jumped toward Vaetric via the back, teeth bared. "Awooooooooo!" It howled as it moved, causing more howls in return as it moved closer and closer toward Vaetric, who froze up and looked behind him. "H.. Huh?!" He gasped.

Coming to this island in search of one of those devil fruits was starting to feel like a huge waste of time. Not only had the weather eventually taken a turn for the worst- with the stormy and aggressive winds and rapid whipping of the rain. The clouds laid against the dark sky as a shadow was cast over the island itself. Komainu had only been in some obscure area between rocks and grassland- he figured an island like this that didn't seem to have much to offer might be hiding some type of secret below it's belly. But as he was starting to figure out he was being FAR too open minded about how one might find a devil fruit or really any type of treasure for that matter. The lands of the island were basically untouched and uninterrupted- well at least until now, it wasn't like he was going to go digging through the surface of the island to try and find a devil fruit that probably wasn't there to begin with.
He stood in his common attire, His Boxers shorts and few wrappings around his fists and feet- the fishman birthmarks on his arms and shoulders were as clear as day to see and the Lion mane rested on his head and flowed through the rapid wind like it was some kind of cape. "Good Grief I- should just head back to the main town at this rate" He thought to himself looking toward the distant houses and town a few meters away. He started walking from out the rocky corner he was settled in to try and make it toward the island.
It was so distractingly dark, only the lightning served as some kind of a light source for him to see...anything. As he tried to make his way back to the islands main town he started to hear...something...someone calling out a name? He couldn't make out exactly what was being said but it sounded like someone in distress. As he'd expect, with this weather it probably wasn't quite the breath of fresh air anyone might be looking for- perhaps it was a native that knew their way around here. He started to wander closer to the source of the voice as best he could- with the ambient of the storm it was understandably difficult to make out most of what they were saying.
He eventually got into something akin to an open field, not too many rocks or anything around. But there was some movement- he could see the patterns of the grass being a bit different from the ones getting smacked by the wind and the rain. Somehow he doubted this was the voice he heard or maybe it as and he was lured into a trap. Komainu gripped his hands into fists tightly looking toward the movement.
"Do you want to get pummeled...?" He asked in a cold voice. Eventually he'd hear the whimpering of a wolf as it'd walk out to approach Komainu in a much more friendly manner. "That's what I thought-...hmm you couldn't have been the source of th-" As he was assessing the situation he brought his gaze across the field adjacent to where he stood coming upon something of a curvy figure, like him shrouded by darkness and harder to see.
Looking closer it seemed like this figure was wearing a sailor uniform of some kind- but not only that, there was something approaching them from behind as they seemed to be trying to communicate with Komainu...but something told him he wasn't the person the curvy figure thought he was. "...Erik...?" He'd say before catching a glimpse of the hostile motions of the wolf behind the person. quickly thrusting himself forward, letting his feet slide on the wet grass before swinging a punch into the jaw of the mutt- sending it a few feet backwards away from the curvy backside. "Who are you calling Erik!?" Komainu would say after smacking the wolf away. After being a bit closer to the said figure he was able to make out their appearance better. "Ah...? oi- isn't that a marine uniform? do you know how to get back to town...? I don't know any Eriks- I'm Komainu."

Vaetric looked around, realising that Erik seemed to have run into the Forest in search of his pack, leaving him alone in the forest. He was somewhat dumbfounded. Was Erik really that easy to sidetrack? He felt somewhat bad about making him lose his pack, though, the higher-ups would probably admonish him for it. He adjusted his own one, which seemed to have survived his fall. He heard the distant murmurings of a voice toward behind him. Maybe it was Erik? As he turned around, however, he was met with a wolf pouncing toward his lower section. He'd yelp, jumping back, only for the wolf to be punched away. It let out a whine, running back into the forest. he couldn't quite see all that well in the dimness. "E-Erik?" He asked, but his saviour sounded different and asked him who he meant.
"E-Eh?!" He said, his heart freezing up as he realised that this person was indeed not Erik. The darkness of the trees were swept back for a moment as lightning struck somewhere off in the distance, casting a light upon the area. The man looked bizarre, with pink hair, dark skin and strange marks on his body. He was around the same height as Vaetric, maybe a little taller. What Vaetric first noticed, however, was his lack of clothing, wearing only some boxer shorts. "Wha?![" He said, taking a step back. The man didn't look to be someone he'd want to mess with, in fact he looked kind of like his siblings, and it didn't end very well for him last time.
"U-Uh.. Yes?" He said, looking down at his uniform. "I'm.. A marine! And I can't find the rest! Me and Erik fell down, but we've been separated too." He explains, omitting the fact that he was but a lowly choreboy. He scratched the back of his head. "You want to get back to town? Uuuhm.. I don't want to leave Erik out here in the wilderness.." He mumbled, rubbing his fingers together. But neither did he want to stay in said wilderness.
They'd hear distant howlings, coming closer and closer. Vaetric jumped, looking around, before realising he'd neglected to greet Komainu properly. "Uh.. I'm Vaetric. Meri. Vaetric Meri." He said nervously, casting a glance around the forest. "There are.. A few wolves around.." He muttered, more to himself. He'd turn away from the man in boxer shorts. "Uh.. If you wanna head back to tow-"" He begins, deciding to just tell him. He doubted the guy would've wanted to help him find Erik, however, he'd be interrupted as a wolf leapt out of the wilderness for his face. "AUGH!" He screams in surprise, jumping backwards and most likely bumping into Komainu in the process. Regardless, he'd manage to avoid being bitten again this time. "S.. Sorry!" He'd say to Komainu, whether he actually bumped into him or not, before readying his mop.
Another wolf prowled off from behind the one that attacked Vaetric- and another one behind those two. Behind THAT one, a much larger looking wolf came into view, missing an eye and holding not a few bullet wounds. The beast growled at them, as the three began to run around and encircle the two. "O-Oh dear.." Vaetric mumbled to himself as he looked around. He'd stay his ground, looking toward the half-naked man behind him. How were they supposed to get out of this one? They were outnumbered two to one, and didn't have the element of surprise like last time. His only saving grace was his mop, which he gripped tightly. He shook a little in apprehension. The wolf encircling them closest to Komainu let out a loud "WOOF!" before prowling forward, aiming to gnash at his left leg with biting, sharp teeth.

Striking that wolf was as easy as striking any opponent he'd ever come across- but something told him the wolves were more willing to take a few punches if it meant they could prowl and prey on a little recruit like the marine in front of him. It may have seemed strange for a pirate like himself to protect a marine, but given the motive and how squeamish this one appeared to be, it wasn't like he had all that much of a reason to make an enemy of the world government just yet. Besides seeming less than hostile compared to most marines you may come across- this curvy marine in front of him seemed to give off the vibes of a pretty good person, which was good news- though Komainu probably couldn't animate the same courtesy for himself.
"Sorry, I'm sure you're just looking out for your partner in crime or whatever this Erik guy is to you, but I don't particularly see a reason to help find him- with this weather and wild animals the best thing to fo would be to find a way back to town." Komainu would lay out his standpoint on the situation in a very stoic manner. The marine finally introduced themself as Vaetric Meri along with commenting on the fact that there seemed to be a few wolves around the area, which as Vae was probably catching onto, Komainu had already been aware of. "Vaetric Meri...? Interesting name- anyway..." As Vaetric spoke about how to get back to town the marine would jump- backing up into Komainu, also catching the boxer a bit off guard.
He'd urgently lay a hand on the marines side as if to help them stand up correctly as they seemed like the type to fall prone to accidents. "A chore boy like you shouldn't be wandering out alone- even if it's a pretty tame island like this one...hmmm well whatever it seems you're going to need my help here" After finishing that sentence Komainu would dash forward letting his feet slide across the wet grass to deliver an uppercut to another one of the wolves delivering a few jabs, then a right hook to that same wolf. Komainu would become aware of the much bigger Wolf encircling Vaetric and Komainu. The boxer pirate would sigh before repositioning himself next to Vaetric, he would pull Vaetric close to him with an arm wrapped around his shoulder while eyeing the few Wolves that still remained to stalk them.
"Oi, Vaetric right? I'll call you Vae, do you know how to fight...or at the very least swing that mop of yours aggressively? I'm going to need you to try because I can't take care of every wolf here AND protect you from getting hit- and I don't like seeing people like you get bruises- so why don't you do me a favor and focus on fending off those smaller wolves while I handle the Hardy giant over here, eh?" He would release Vaetric after his few words before stepping forward rolling the join in his shoulder as he advanced toward the wolf.

Vaetric looked to Komainu as he spoke, before sighing and looking toward the ground. “I guess.. I guess I should do that.. Then tell the others he’s missing, then they’ll go look for him!” He says, nodding. Though, he wasn’t particularly comfortable around Komainu, it wasn’t his demeanour or anything, it was more of the fact that he didn’t seem to have any modesty. He was just wearing a pair of boxers and many some miscellaneous things, that’s it. His chest was bear, and he couldn’t really understand why he did so. Oh, that might be the reason. “Uuuh.. Did you lose your clothes or something?” he asked after willing up the courage to do so. He stood away from Komainu a bit after getting up.
He shook his head. “{color=lightblue]N.. No, we were supposed to be with a bunch of others for training, but we slid down the hill.[/color]” Vaetric said, pointing upward. He jumped as Komainu dashed past him, only to hear a whimper as a wolf fled from Komainu’s fists with its tail between its legs. The alpha growled at it, and it was forced to stay, moving away from the pink haired human and zooming over with another one. Vaetric let out a little uncomfortable “Ngh.” as he was dragged closer to Komainu. Although Vaetric was dressed properly, it was still weird for him, even though he should really be looking out more for the wolves. “Y-Yeah?” He asked, confirming his name as the pink haired male gave his battle plan. “Y.. You want to fight that thing by YOURSELF?” Vaetric asked, shocked. Who’d want to fight such a beast. Then again, he didn’t quite like his chances of fighting the wolves either. He let out a sigh, nodding. “O-Okay..” He said, after having been released. He’d look around at the three wolves around him, feeling not a little twinge of apprehension as he ran off to a tree, keeping his back to it as the wolves growled and moved to surround him. He noticed one was injured, and simply gave it a smack on the forehead, causing it to crumple down, unconscious. Two more to go?
Meanwhile, Komainu would find himself face to face with the rather large canine. It leapt forward, gnashing its teeth with a loud woof. It aimed to a bite toward Komainu with its rather sharp teeth, being at least one league above the rest of the wolves.
