"Oh come, come see what's underneath!"
Full Name: Winters, Jacob
Alias/Nickname: N/A
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Faction: Pirate
Appearance: Jacob is a tall, slender man with a peculiar look. Ghoulishly pale with unkempt, dark hair and lifeless blue eyes, Jacob is often considered unnerving to look at. Jacob is known for his signature top hat, which he wears at all times when he is traveling outdoors. Jacob also wears a trenchcoat most of the time, along with a long, black, thin scarf, with Jacob’s usual attire being pulled together by his characteristic black cape, which is torn from battles from a previous time.
Jacob has messy hair and very long fingernails, due to not being taken care of as a child. Even as he grew up, his knowledge of these practices were rudimentary at best, as such, his personal hygiene can be lacking at times. Despite this, his sense of fashion was developed by the attire worn by characters in illustrated mystery novels.
Jacob has embraced his unusual and unnerving appearance, even learning how to apply certain types of make-up, such as dark eyeliner and powder, in an attempt to look even more freakish. Due to Jacob's unusual and violent hobbies, his clothes are often tattered and occasionally covered in blood or mud, and since Jacob never learned how to do laundry, they often stay that way for long periods of time.
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Blue
Height: 6’1 feet
Weight: 145 pounds
Personality: Jacob is blinded by his rage and jealousy, emotions that were built up by a childhood of torment and pain at the hands of his father. He is angry at the cruel world that he was brought into, and jealous of others who were able to experience love and happiness. Over time, Jacob’s bitterness and resentment turned into unrelenting sadism and psychopathy, mirroring the man that he had detested with every fiber of his being as a child.
He has been called as “one of the men that just want to watch the world burn”, an accurate statement for an emotionally fragile man that never experienced friendship or love, somebody who made the decision to take out his pain on others. As a result, Jacob enjoys inflicting pain on others, in an attempt to always be the predator and not the prey.
As Jacob grew older and more powerful, he also became more ruthless, developing a maniacal streak that fed his sadism. Despite this brash and maniacal layer of his personality, Jacob felt incredibly attached to his mother growing up, who was the only person that ever showed kindness to Jacob. She tried to teach him kindness, but her teachings fell on deaf ears as an unfortunate series of events unfolded, that left Jacob without a family or any loved ones.
Due to his upbringing, Jacob knows very little about how the world works, and he can be clueless about simple things like how boats are able to move across the ocean or even what the Grand Line is. As a result, he can be uncharacteristically calm and diplomatic when he is in need of information, as his lack of knowledge about the world can and has significantly impeded his progress in the past.
Jacob’s outright hostility to others is based on his fear of rejection. His appearance has often lead to ostracization, and those who encountered him often feared him, resulting in him becoming paranoid and afraid of how others would judge him. If a person were to get past Jacob’s incredibly lethal and thick defence mechanism, some of his humanity is still hidden deep underneath, with his inner child craving the acceptance and love that he did not receive as a child.
Jacob is also not able to read or write, and as such, he at times has a difficult time coping in the world. Despite this, he has taken an interest in a certain series of illustrated mystery novels, even taking up the fashion and dressing style of the main character.
Likes:
The Darkness:
Jacob enjoys the embrace of the night, the encroaching darkness. Having been raised in an environment of complete darkness as a child, Jacob feels utmost safety within the dark crevices of the world. As a result of his utter disdain for light, and especially sunshine, his complexion is unnervingly pale.
Fear:
Jacob loves the smell of fear among his enemies. An underlying anger against the world drives the need for Jacob to frighten those around him, just as his father did day and night over and over again as he was growing up. His desire to see fear encroaching his enemies is borne out of his innate sadism. Jacob even enjoys being afraid himself, as the feeling makes him feel as though he’s alive, and gives him a rush of adrenaline.
Black Bean Noodles:
In contrast to Jacob’s seemingly inhuman appearance and personality, Jacob has a uncannily benign love for black bean noodles, especially when prepared by an expert. The meal reminds Jacob of the few bright spots in his childhood, when his mother would make the meal at home and feed Jacob, when his father was not around.
Dislikes:
The Heat:
Having grown up in a cold, musty basement, the heat and sunshine is new to him, and Jacob does not like it one bit. This is particularly complicated by Jacob’s choice of attire, being traditional spring/fall clothing, not suited for a tropical climate. As such, Jacob prefers to travel and carry out tasks at night, when temperatures are cooler and the sun is gone.
Child Abusers:
Despite being pretty evil in most circumstances, and being overall indifferent to children, Jacob has a particularly strong hatred for those who hurt children, having been the victim in similar cases in his past. As a result, he can be surprisingly protective of children, but otherwise he finds children quite annoying.
Moral Alignment: Chaotic Evil
History: Jacob Winters was born to a large, impoverished family in the Blues. He was born premature and as a result, he looked very sick and frail as a newborn. Jacob’s father believed that Jacob would not survive in the world for very long, but his mother insisted that they at least attempt to keep Jacob alive.
Jacob did survive, but his father still refused to accept him, believing that he was the spawn of a demon, owing to his ghoulish-looking skin from his premature birth. Jacob’s birth tipped his father over the line and he started beating his wife, believing that she had an affair, as he refused to believe that there was no possible way that he was Jacob’s biological father.
As Jacob grew slightly older, Jacob’s father became violent with the young child himself, and relegated him to a broom closet in the basement, locked with chains. His siblings frequently bullied Jacob and they never made an attempt to connect with him. The only person that emphatized with Jacob was his poor mother, who was the only thing that stood between Jacob and his death at the end of his father’s abuse and neglect.
Jacob spent 14 years in a tiny, dark broom closet, being close to malnourished and having slowly gone insane over the forced, endless isolation. All that Jacob ever knew outside of the broom closet was the torment and abuse he received from his father and his siblings. A primal anger festered within him for years, but he felt powerless to do anything against his tormentors.
Jacob received his lucky break when his mother decided to free him from captivity, severing the chains that held Jacob onto the dirty, muddy floor that he had been relegated to for the entirety of his life. At the middle of the night, his mother was able to get Jacob out of the basement, when his father had woken up amidst the commotion caused by Jacob’s escape attempt.
Jacob’s father brutally attacked Jacob’s mother, and Jacob’s anger reached a tipping point, and he only saw red. When Jacob had gained consciousness again, he found himself upstairs, lying amidst the bodies of his siblings, whom he had killed with a kitchen knife. Jacob slowly went downstairs and found his father in a similar condition.
Jacob’s mother was alive, and had witnessed the entire ordeal, and she could only look on in horror as she screamed at Jacob, “Get out, you demon, GET OUT! You’re not my son, you’re not a human, you’re a monster!”. Jacob’s anger dissaded and he felt immense heartbreak, and he could feel his only connection to humanity being severed by the harsh words of his mother, who had desperately tried to stop Jacob but failed to do so.
Jacob left his village and had stumbled upon a brave new world that he had no knowledge of, having been shackled in a basement for as long as he had known. In his first night in the wilderness, Jacob encountered a rabid dog that had charged Jacob with his teeth bared. Jacob easily dispatched of the dog with his knife, but the experience shaped Jacob’s view of the world, that it was a dark and scary place that would try to kill him at all times. Jacob’s defence mechanism became his desire to be the predator rather than the prey, the one inflicting pain on others rather than being the victim himself.
Even after he emerged from the shadows, human society shunned him because of his appearance and lack of social understanding. He felt the pain of rejection and took it out on others, leaving a bloody trail fueled by his intense desire to not feel helpless, not anymore, and not ever again.
