"ONE, TWO, ONE, TWO!" It was the same old onboard the Marine ship still docked here on the main island of Conomi. Ensigns were training on the deck with a higher up in front of them, giving orders with gusto. His voice was loud enough that is scared off the nearby seagulls. Some people nearby even looked to the ship in curiosity of all that yelling. What most found odd, and pretty annoying was simply the norm when it came to these Marines. Hell, some of them even enjoy this intense training. One of them being the chore boy, Erik Dubois. Currently, the Marines were practicing one two punches. Erik who is still of lower rank was instead on the side away from the others as he listened in, copying the movements of the others as if he were apart of the training. Next to him is a bucket full of water, a mop that he was suppose to be using to clean with, and his Marine cap resting upon the top of said mop. "One, Two, One, Two." Erik copied the guy barking the orders, but his tone wasn't as loud. A small smirk laid on his face which was filled with determination, and sweat. He always did things like this by himself, but to do it with others despite it not really appearing that way right now felt nice. The green haired lad almost forgot about the world around him as he was just focused on what he was doing right now. Those two numbers repeating over, and over in his head until...
"DUBOIS GET BACK TO WORK!!!!"
The captain of this ship yelled within inches of the poor guy's ear. This nearly caused Erik to trip over his own feet as he went, "Y-yes sir, right away, sir!!" Erik saluted, and picked his mop back up, dipping it into the bucket, and then rubbing it against the wooden ground, his tongue sticking out from the side of his mouth as the mopping intensifies. The captain gave Erik one more stern look before walking off towards the other Marines who were training. "Alright, that's enough." the captain said to the one issuing the training orders, leading the others to stop. "Alright ladies listen up. We will be getting another recruit on this ship, so you all best be on your best behavior." The captain claimed, as he paced from left to right. Overhearing this, Erik looked back over to the others, his mopping slowing down due to his attention being drawn to this news. "Be on our best behavior?" "You're one to talk, captain." two ensigns said within the group, leading to a bit of snickering which was quickly stopped by the captain's...very intimidating deadpan expression.
"NOTHING, SIR!!" the two troublemakers yelled in union, which lead to more laughing. Erik on the other hand was more focused on this new person. If he remembers correctly, he was the latest addition to this unit, unless one counts Lily. Still, the idea of having another chore hand onboard would be nice. It'll certainly lessen the workload...especially since it feels like Erik is the only one who does stuff around here.

Vaetric could feel the hot sun beating- no,- glaring down at him. Having recently arrived via ship to the East Blue, he had found it sunnier than his "home" island, which had been covered in snow. He felt a twinge of longing and anxiety, he was a long way from where he grew up. The transport that had taken him away from the North stopped in a place called the Conomi Islands, he was now on the main one presumably. He glanced around, holding his standard edition mop awkwardly. He could hear the shouting of marines doing drills and training. There weren't all that many marines compared to some islands here, they seemed to have kept a small base, most likely due to it being quiet. Quiet was good, and the Marines didn't look to be lazy ones either. he was glad to get away from the transport, almost if not everyone from it had been transferred elsewhere. The weight of their stares had been lifted from his back, a life at sea was a lonely one apparently.
Now that he had been freed from their jeers, he only had to be placed into his replacement crew, which he hoped would be somewhat less "friendly" than the others, bumping into him on "accident" frequently. He could hear the shouting of the Captain from a considerable distance, before he could even see him. Yelling something about getting back to work, perhaps someone was slacking? The fact that all they needed was a choreboy was encouraging, they were competent enough to not need any more privates. He moved silently to the ship, glancing around nervously at the gathering, walking to who he assumed was the Captain. "U-Uhm.." He began, coughing a little to clear his throat and trying to remove the lump on his neck. "I'm.. Uhm.. here, uh.." He said, wincing a little as he found it harder and harder to speak. He could barely think through the weighted interested stares of the marines around him, apparently he had been expected. He shyly lowered his marine cap a little further, facing toward them a little by reflex.
The Captain turned to regard him. Vaetric could barely see his face underneath his Marine cap, so he moved his head up a little. It was a face filled with mirth. "That's the Captain." said the lieutenant, gesturing toward another man in front of the marines. The actual, real Captain glared at him, before beckoning him over. Vaetric felt a twinge of anxiety as he moved quickly toward him. He felt a hand press against his chest as he walked into the Captain's open palm to keep him from moving any further.
"Meri, yes?" He asked sternly. Vaetric could feel no semblance of warmth that his previous Captain had. Vaetric could only nod his head numbly. "From you, and other choreboys, I only expect one thing. Stay out of the way, do your job, do it well, and don't slack off." He said haughtily, his gaze flickering to Erik with some measure of annoyance. He then leaned down, eye-level with Vaetric who leaned backward a little nervously. "I don't accept no troublemakers around here, ya' hear?" He said softly, soothingly, dangerously. Vaetric nodded again numbly. The captain straightened up, patting him roughly on the shoulder. "And for goodness sake, learn your ranks! Dubois! Teach him the ropes!" He barked toward the green haired boy, walking off.
Vaetric slowly blinked, realising he was sweating a little due to the intimidation. Dubois? He glanced around, looking for anyone to approach him. His first guess would be the one looking at him, but barring the Captain and a few others, they were all looking at him. He felt his face heat up, and not due to the sun, as he gripped his mop protectively to his chest. "Hhrmmh.." He whimpered quietly, only noticing such a noise he emitted after he made it, which gave him an extra dose of embarassment. This was going to be horrible, he knew it. All he wanted at that moment was to go home.

At this point, Erik was resting both hands on the top of his mop, one on top of the other with his chin resting upon his hand. He continued to look over at the others, wondering just who this new person is, and what they will be like. Shortly after, Dubois noticed some of the other Marines looking towards the entrance of the ship after they finished their laughing. Slowly, the rest would follow, and look in that direction while the captain looked last. After blinking a few times, Erik shifted his attention over their as well, and saw someone coming aboard. They had a Marine uniform as well, but it was somebody the green headed boy hasn't seen before. Could this be the new person the captain was talking about? This first thing Erik noticed was the overall timid nature the newbie gave off, especially with how they held onto that mop which they apparently brought with them for whatever reason. It felt a bit nostalgic actually since Erik wasn't exactly all sunshine, and rainbows when he first came aboard this ship, but he did still try his best to make a good first impression! Another thing Erik gathered was their feminine appearance, quickly assuming that they were a she despite being very wrong. Their figure wasn't helping much as the boy's eyes started to wander...
The new guy started to speak, or at least try to, but appeared to be stumbling over his own words which caused some of the marines to start whispering among themselves about him, saying various things. It was pretty obvious that the blonde was having a bad time, leading Erik to frown a bit since he knows how the others could get from personal experience. The captain then started to make his way over to the recruit with his signature stern look which was enough to make Erik gulp, fearing for the newbie. The cap then started to speak, making it clear that he wasn't here to hold anyone's hand. That was always this guy's thing. Being a hardass, but the guy meant well....or at least Erik hoped. Dubois then realized that the captain's attention was no longer on the new guy, but on him instead. "Ehhhh...." Erik backed up a bit, stepping on his marine cap without noticing, and quickly went back to mopping with a sheepish grin on his face. Being on the captain's radar, and being made an example of were the last things on Erik's list. Hell, they weren't even on it at all! Erik continued to mop, with his head facing the ground to make sure he didn't miss a spot...or make eye contact with the old man. He could still here the guy's words however, and found himself looking back up at the captain, a bit surprised about the last few words he said.
"Teach him...the ropes?" Erik repeated to himself. The first thing that ran across the guy's mind was now he had not one, but TWO people he had to look over. Are they just going to dump all of the new recruits onto him!? Why they think it's a good idea to have someone like Erik teach anyone anything is beyond him, but still the feeling of being trusted with things like this did make him feel good. Plus more opportunities to show his superiors that he is good enough to be more than just some chore boy someday! There was another thing on Erik's mind however after this.
SHE'S A HE!?!?
The man thought to himself, placing his hands on both sides of his face as if he actually yelled that out. How could this be. That hair, that face, those...features! He looks so feminine, so...cute even. The thought of that caused Erik's face to light up. He definitely wasn't all big, and muscular like the others here. Still that didn't matter. The blond looked confused, and hesitant still after the captain left. It doesn't seem like he knows who, or where Erik is which s something the green eyed chore boy took note of. Erik shook his head, regaining his attention, and crouched down to get his cap from under his foot. A bit dirty, but something to worry about later. He placed it on his head, and stood back tall, wanting to make a first good impression like he failed to do with Lily, but then again, he doubted that she even noticed. "H-hey!" Erik said as he walked over to the newbie, dragging his mop behind him with a small smile on his face. "Dubois Erik Jr. reporting for duty!" he said to Meri with a salute. It was meant to be a little joke however, but the poor guy just realized how awkward that kind of felt. "E-er, or you could just call me Erik." he claimed with a low, and awkward chuckle, lowering his hand to scratch the side of his cheek with a finger nervously. "Sooo, Meri was it?" he asked, now rubbing the back of his head. Just as he did this, Erik's eyes wandered over to the marines who resumed their training, getting a bit distracted by it. Erik was so focused on them that he nearly forgot about what he was doing until he dropped his mop, the sound startling him a bit.
"Uhhhh, sorry about that!" he said as he crouched down to pick up his mop again. Erik was not exactly as social butterfly himself....

Vaetric looked around, he had mistaken their looks for stares, but instead they were wide-eyed, gape-jawed looks of surprise. It was happening all over again, when he first joined the marines they put him down as a choregirl, did he really look so much like a woman? It was disconcerting. He his face began to flush further, turning the lower back part of his body away from the others, facing it in the direction of the sea. First they were shocked, tehn they seemed interested, then they’d start doing strange things. Like intentionally bumping into him but claim it was an accident, yeah right. But he couldn’t do anything, he was just a chore boy, endure and ignore it, as usual. That’s all he could do. He had almost lost track of time before he had realised a few moments passed, and the one supposed to show him the ropes, even though he pretty much knew almost everything he had to do, hadn’t come yet. He’d been a chore boy for about a month or so before arriving here, maybe there was something else to do. He then blinked as he realised, his duty as a chore boy in the North Blue mainly consisted of cleaning snow, cold, hard work. The hot sun told him that there’d be less snow shovelling, and more actual cleaning here.
He jumped a little as someone called out. A guy began walking toward him, dragging a mop which signified his choreboy status. He had dark green, wide orbs with a head of messy hair that matched his eyes, it stuck out anywhere it could reach. He wore a chore boy outfit, that Vaetric noted it fit Dubois much better than his did him. He also wore a slightly dirty cap, like someone stepped on it. He hoped that wasn’t a regular endurance, having to clean up your own clothes due to someone else’s actions was not only rude, but extremely annoying. Dubois looked a little young, around fifteen to seventeen. That’d be a bit embarrassing, having to learn and get taught by someone younger than him, though he felt a warmth around him that made Vaetric replace a little.
The boy revealed himself to be called Erik. Dubois, Erik, and gave a salute. Vaetric looked at him a little apprehensively, before tentatively returning the salute, his hand shaking a little. He opened his mouth to speak, but the lump in his throat that wouldn’t go away stopped him. He still felt embarrassed beyond belief at his entrance. He put down his saluting hand and gripped his mop once again, holding it tightly. Erik let out a small chuckle as he said how he wanted to be addressed. He looked to be nice enough, maybe he won’t mind having to tell someone older than him how to do things, even if that person knew most of it.
“U-Uhm.. Y.. Yes!” He began to stutter, before forcing it out in a high pitch. He held back another whine, though that one would’ve been of annoyance at his own voice. “Meri, V-Vaetric.” He said, before noticing how different their naming conventions were. Erik. Vaetric, his name sounded much weirder than the other. “A-Ah.. I’m u-used to cleaning.. Snow, and t-the like..” He mumbled, glancing up to the bearing sun that loomed over them, straightening his cap a little, he could feel his skin burning a bit. Either he’d have to find something to shield his pale skin, or get a tan after having been sunburnt. Erik looked a little bit preoccupied, looking toward the marines. He wondered if they were still staring, he glancing over to them before jumping as he heard the crack of two pieces of wood meeting eachother, causing him to drop his mop as well in surprise. “S-Sorry!” He yelped, crouching down as well to pick up his mop, which had dropped next to Erik’s. He’d reach down for it in a panic and swiftly. In his flight, he may knock his head into Erik’s by accident.
Should that happen, he’d let out a gasp of pain, falling backwards onto his padded rump. He’d place his hand up to his forehead, letting out a moaning “Oooww…” As he winced. What a great way to greet someone, by head-butting them. He was absolutely awful at greeting someone, he noticed miserably as he rubbed his forehead, his backside aching a little from the impact with the ground.

Well, things were not going as smoothly as Erik wanted them to. The green headed chore boy wanted to make a good first impression, but alas, things started to go downhill as they usually do. This Vaetric guy seemed a bit more shy than Erik originally thought. Definitely more timid compared to Erik's first day. The wandering eyes of the other marines probably didn't help much. Some of them seemed quite as surprised about Vaetric's gender just like Erik was, but still it was impolite to stare. All the more reason why Dubois needed to be the better man, and look out for his fellow chore boy!
Erik was crouched down in the middle of picking up his mop that he dropped, but a mere few seconds later something hard would make impact with his forehead. A rather painful impact that led to his hat falling off again. "Gaah...!" is all that could come out of Erik's mouth at that moment. He quickly stood back up, nearly falling back, but managing to catch his footing. Erik let out a small groan as he closed his eyes, rubbing his forehead which was now sporting a nice red mark. "What in the world was tha-" Dubois opened an eye to see just who, or what was the culprit of this throbbing pain only to see Vaetric rear first on the ground, rubbing his head as well. "O-oh!" Erik immediately stopped rubbing his head, and took a few steps towards the poor blond. The green eyed marine was pretty durable thanks to his years of training, so this did not hurt as much compared to if this happened to most others, which is why he was now worried about poor Meri sitting down right there. He knows little to nothing about him, so he has to assume that this was much more of a painful experience for him than it was for Erik. "Hey, are you okay?" Erik asked with a hand extended out towards Vaetric. The look on his face, and tone were enough to tell that Erik felt remorseful about this. He was suppose to be comforting, and helping the newbie, not injuring him! Though who ever is at fault here remains in question, Erik still takes full responsibility for all of this.
"I-I'm very sorry! Do you need me to take you to our infirmary?" he'd ask whether Vaetric took his hand or not. "I can be a bit of a klutz at times, ya know?" he claimed with a light chuckle, trying his best to ease the mood. There was of course some truth to his words as he does have a habit of getting himself in less fortunate situations. But that was all part of becoming a great Marine! Right now, he just hoped that he didn't hurt the new guy too bad.

Vaetric's head pulsated a little as a red mark appeared on his forehead. Erik's head felt like a cinderblock, not that he knew what they actually felt like, but now he knew. he felt a little dizzy, but he didn't feel much more than those two things, he was struck straight on the forehead, so the most he lost was most likely just a few brain cells. He was told he wasn't that weak himself, apparently he was above average in most fields of physical prowess, but he didn't feel it. Though, when having to run, from privates or otherwise, he did feel he was able to lose some rather quickly, so he had that going for him. Continuing to rub his forehead with his right hand, he opened his left eye to peek at Erik, who looked to be less affected by the blow, albeit he did let out an uncomfortable sound, and his hat had fallen off. He then noticed Erik had taken a few steps toward him, bringing him a bit closer. Vaetric felt his cheeks lighten up in embarassment. " I.. I'm f-fine! It uhm.. Only hurt a l-little.." He mumbled, trying to be assuring. Should he apologise for him? It WAS probably his own fault, though if Erik hadn't dropped his mop, then the chain of events wouldn't have befallen them. No, that was just trying to shift the blame, it was Vaetric's fault for panicking so quickly. Vaetric opened his mouth, only for Erik to start apologising, he closed it for a moment, noticing the hand as Erik said he was a clutz. " U-Uh.. No, It.. Uh.. Was my uhm.. fault." He said, accepting the hand with his somewhat soft though less-than-delicate hands, he HAD been working with a mop for a month or two, after all. Once he stood up, lifting his behind from the floor, he noticed Erik's cap had fallen to the ground. " Oh! Your.. Cap." He said, bending over somewhat carefully to pick up the cap, and both the mops, bending his knees a bit so their weight didn't go straight to his back, a moment later, he stood up straight again, flumbling around with the hat and mops until he was sure whose was whose, offering Erik his mop and hat back with a small wincing smile. His forehead didn't hurt as much now, but it still ached a little. " M..Moving on.." Vaetric coughed, glancing around, before back to Erik. " I.. I guess we should get to work, right?" He asked, looking around for a cleaning bucket. " We should be cleaning the deck, yeah?" He added, hurrying over to it and willing his flushed cheeks (facial) to die down, aiming to stick his mop into the bucket and whirl it around a little. Vaetric turned around to glance at Erik if he was on board with it, before placing his mop down onto the floor. " Uh.. If.. if it's okay, I'll take this side, and you take that, right?" He asks, pointing to the left side of the ship. He placed the mop down. The best way really to get to work was to make it fun, or at least less repetetive, like shovelling snow. He began to walk around the edges of the ship, cleaning those nooks and crannies first, leaning down and placing his weight onto the mop to get rid of those annoying pieces of dirt which had clung to the spot for goodness knows how long. At times he had to place his foot onto the mop to add strength to the swipes, but once this was done, he'd be able to begin cleaning the deck properly, not having to worry about the edges. Despite Vaetric confirming that he's alright, Erik gave the timid guy one last concerned look, before sighing in relief, his frown shortly turning into a small smile, oblivious to the blond's flushed cheeks. "Well, that's good to here." Erik claimed, his voice a tad bit quieter than before, and less anxiety. Their hands then connected, Erik's feeling feeling rough from the combination of training, and chore work. They say that one could potentially learn a lot about someone just from the feel of their hand alone. Meri's was soft to the touch compared to Dubois' which would lead one to believe that the blond wasn't much of a fighter, but then again one shouldn't just judge a book by its cover. All Erik could sum up from this was that his fellow chore boy had some pretty nice hands, not that it concerned him, or anything! "L-let's just meet in the middle...and say it was both our faults?" Erik claimed. He didn't expect an actually answer to this in return as it was just another attempt at lightening the mood. Erik was once again scratching the side of his cheek with a finger, an indication of him either feeling nervous, or feeling as if he made things awkward. right now it was a combination of both. He was also just now noticing their difference in height with Vaetric appearing to be taller than him, but not by that much from the looks of it.
"Huh?" Erik paused with the cheek scratching as he watched Meri crouch back down. It was then Dubois noticed that he still didn't pick up his mop, AND that his hat was once again on the wooden floor, collecting more dirt from who knows where. "Oh, uh!" Erik was about to go right back down to retrieve his things, but what had happened a few moments ago would flash through his head, causing him to stop mid way before standing straight back up. Probably not the best of ideas he'd think to himself, the thought causing him to rub the back of his had as his green eyes shifted to the side. As Vaetric got back up, Dubois looked back over to him, watching as he looked at both their mops. Was he...trying to figure out which belonged to who? Erik simply tilted his head to the side, but not a big enough shift to be easily noticed. To the green haired guy, both mops looked exactly the same, unless he was missing something. Then again Meri did come onto the ship with a mop, so maybe it held some kind of meaning? It didn't really matter, Erik wasn't the type to judge about such things.
Dubois gave the new guy another warm smile as he took his mop, and hat from him. "Heh, thanks." he'd say before putting his cap back on...or he was going to until he noticed how dirty it got. "Ehhh, maybe I should hold off on putting this back on my head." he said in a lowered tone, not realizing that he was thinking out loud. Instead, he placed the cap in between the side of his pants in hope that it won't fall off again. As he was doing that, Meri brought up something they should've been doing a looong time ago. Before Erik could say anything, the new guy was already hurrying off. Erik watched as he walked towards the deck, and then shifted his attention towards the captain who was peeking out through his quarters, glaring at poor Dubois as if he were trying to fire lasers from out of his eyes, or melt the green guy's brain. Taking the hint, Erik would scurry off to Vaetric with mop in hand, not wanting to make eye contact with the captain again.
Taking one more look back to see if the cap was looking, Erik sighed as he saw his door slam shut which also startled some of the marines who were close by that area. The moment, Meri started to speak again, Erik looked back over to him, quietly giving his undivided attention. "Oh..yeah that sounds like a plan." Erik claimed with a reassuring grin. "If you need anything, just call." he said, backing up a bit to his area before turning fully around to get there faster...and not crash into anyone like an idiot. With that done, Erik went back to work, dipping his mop into his bucket, and mopping away. The training for the Ensigns were finished, so it meant less distraction for Dubois. A shame that he can't join along with them, but he hopes that it'll happen soon. While he mopped, Erik would look back at Vaetric every now, and again to see how he's doing. It looks like the new guy was familiar with this, so there wasn't too much to worry about. Erik smiled a bit at the idea of there being another chore boy aboard to share his anguish...er chores with! It was pretty nice. Dubois turned back around, and continued at his job until it happened again....
His damn cap was right back on the now wet ground.
Erik looked down at it, not uttering a word. He then pinched the bridge of his nose in mild annoyance. Maybe he should just leave the blasted thing on his bunk. Erik crouched down to retrieve his cap. Once it was in his hand, he could feel just how wet it was, leading him to shake his head slightly. He then ended up looking back in Vaetric's direction to see how he was holding up again. This time however, Erik's eyes were focused on something....different. From this angle, Erik could see Vaetric's rump a lot better. Though unintentional, Erik continued to stare until his cheeks began to light up. "What are you looking at?" came a voice that crept up to Erik's ear, leading him to bounce back, and fall onto the ground back first, the bucket of water he was using to mop spilling over in the process. Erik didn't realize the marine crouched down beside him, mocking the poor green eyed boy. "I-I Uhhh...errrr, when did you get here!?" Erik mumbled out as he looked up at the now chuckling marine who was joined by two more. "Was actually around for a few seconds, but I guess you were too busy to notice. What were you looking at anyway?" the marine asked, but his snickering, and eyes shifting towards where Meri was is enough to tell that he already knew. "Ohhh, I didn't know you were like that, Dubois." "Just think about how poor Lily will feel about this." the other two marines teased. "N-n-n-nooo, it's...it's nothing like that!! I was just...." Erik quickly got back to his feet as he tried his best to justify himself until he noticed something one of the marines previously said. 'W-wait, it's nothing like that b-between me, and Lily neither!" he continued to freak out, flailing his arms as his face turned a dark red. "Ahahaha, where just messing with ya, new blood." one of the three claimed as they started to walk off, snickering still. "Oh, and don't worry, it'll be our little secret." another said just as they walked past Meri, obviously intentional.
Defeated, Erik just sat right back down, placing his hand against his face. Why did the others have to be so annoying? Erik understood that it was just a little friendly jest, but still it could get a bit extreme. Plus why was he still being called new blood!?

Vaetric glanced at Erik to see how he was doing, it looked like he was cleaning his hat. He turned back to his cleaning. The built-up dirt and grime from careless eating marines had been mainly washed away from the edges of the ship. He sweated a little under the heat of the sun, wiping his forehead and peering up at the offending ball of flame that flared down at them. Erik had said that it was both their faults, so he was trying to share the blame, was he naturally nice, or just fabricating it? Well, he did seem rather earnest, so it was unfair of him to even doubt Erik, really. He had a nice smile. He didn't even notice his mopping of the hat again, or at least, not until he already had done so. Well, now that his corners were done, he could start on the deck proper. He moved back to dunk his mop back into the soapy water, swishing it around, then moving back to the end of the deck. he was doing one side of the ship, so he started on that particular endeavor by drawing a line down along the middle of it so they'd know their corners better. He then started to fill in the rest with cleaning water. The deck's dull wood began to gradually be replaced by a sparkling surface. Around a quarter way through, Vaetric felt he deserved a little break, probably only thirty seconds or so, so the Captain wouldn't shout at him for slacking. He glanced around, he didn't seem to be about. He turned toward the sea, walking toward the railing to peer over it. Despite the malignancy of the sun's heat, the sea did look rather beautiful, he had to admit. View-wise, it beat the dull, grey skies of the north or the eye-hurting white brilliance of the snow. Blue to grey water shone, reflecting the light's gaze upon a field of spaced, white clouds above. He couldn't help but hope their next assignment was to clean below deck. Then he could look out the portholes instead. He heard mutters behind him, and guessed the Marines were speaking among themselves, who knew? Either way, he had to finish the rest of the mopping. He was about to continue when he heard a commotion coming from erik, who seemed to be in the midst of a freak-out, flailing his arms with his face being red. Vaetric wondered what that was about. Were the Marines messing with the Chore Boys? The Marines pretty much confirmed then that they were messing with Erik, he wondered what they said to him, and if they could provoke a likewise response from Vaetric. Well, he doubted he'd do it, it was a little embarrassing or felt as though it would be, to flail his arms like that. The Marines then said something about a secret, he glanced at them as they passed him for some reason, then he looked to Erik. " Do.. Do they mess with Choreboys often?" He asked sympathetically as Erik sat down with his hand against his face. Whatever it was, they really got to him. he glanced around, the Captain didn't seem to be in sight, so he walked over toward Erik, crouching down. " Uhm... You should probably get back to work, though.. In case the Captain sees you." He said, offering a hand back up, standing with him as he used his legs to brace for Erik's weight should he accept. He'd then turn back to work, mopping up the rest of the deck, layering soapy water upon soapy water so it wouldn't dry out as easily, and be wasted. With that done, all he'd have to do is wait for Erik to finish his. He looked around and guessed he could probably clean some other things while he waited. He placed his mop against the side of the doorway, exchanging it for a sponge as he dipped it in the water, then looked around for something to clean. The mast looked a little dusty below a few of the edges, but he wasn't quite sure if he could reach it. He looked around, checking for anyone looking at him before he walked over to its base. He bent his knees a little, before jumping a fairly considerable distance up to the dirty part of the mast, managing a quick swipe of the sponge, before returning to the ground. He felt something embarrassing happen the moment his feet touched the floor, however. The tight confines of his trousers were, of course, of a superior make to civilians and would not be ruptured due to his generous..ness. However, it would show off a little quake of his behind as he landed due to the force. He felt his cheeks light up a bit, not daring to check if anyone had seen, and decided to stop doing that. But what else was there to do? Oh! The railings! He took a deep breath, if anyone had noticed, they would have said so by now, probably. Or they would keep it to themselves, hopefully. He walked stiffly over to the railing with the soapy sponge, wiping across it. At least when people would lean against it now, they'd be no less dirty than when they started. He became a little too engrossed in making the railing clean, leaning over it heavily as he swished the outside of it, resting his stomach against the edge. He didn't feel like he'd fall, but he did feel a little exposed back there. But if he did something about it now, people would know that he knew, and it'd end up in more embarrassment for him. He really, really wished the Marines had bigger trousers for him, but apparently, they kept running out of baggier ones. " Are.. Are you finished?" He called over to Erik, halting his heavy leaning to look over to him. Wordcount: 993 Total Wordcount: 3035 Vaetric Health: 31/32

Erik continued to sit there with his palm against his face, still annoyed at the events that occurred moments ago. Dubois slowly slid his hand off his face as if he were trying to wipe his entire face off, but the first thing he saw after doing this was Vaetric coming his way which caused his cheeks to flush once again. He was hoping that the blond didn't over here any of this, or that the guys didn't tell him anything. It was embarrassing enough as is! Erik was thinking up excuses of what to say to justify his...wandering eyes, but fortunately it didn't appear as if he needed to say anything about it. Meri appeared to be more concerned about the teasing itself instead of why it happened. Perhaps he just didn't know what happened. "Uh-uhh...No...no I'm pretty sure they just mainly pick on me." Erik claimed, rubbing the back of his head. Though he wasn't sure just how true that was, Erik still wanted to make the new guy feel more at ease given the jumpy start. Still, a part of Erik still believed that what he said about the teasing was true. Finally, Erik noticed Meri's hand helpfully extended out to him. It was almost funny since this was the very same thing Dubois did for his fellow chore boy earlier. "Hah, you're probably right." Erik claimed as he finally took Vaetric's hand, using it to get right back onto his feet.
Before finishing up on his part of the cleaning, Erik would do what he should've done from the start. Putting his damn hat back into the sleeping quarter. He ran in there, hoping that the captain wouldn't notice since he could be pretty strict at times. Closing the door behind him, Erik walked past a few bunk beds until he made it towards his, located on the top. He climbed up it, and placed his dirty hat onto the bed...which may have been a pretty questionable choice, one that Dubois didn't really pay much attention to. Before climbing back down, he'd notice a book resting on his pillow. It was a science fic thing he was reading. He picked it up with a small smile as he pondered how the rest of the story will turn out. The smile however quickly vanished as he noticed...that the freaking book marker he was using was now gone! "Ahhh..not again." Erik sighed. He was pretty far in the book , so losing the marker was going to bite him on the ass later on. Now, he didn't have time to look for it as he was already wasting too much time not doing his work. Poor Dubois placed it back onto the pillow, and jumped back down, going straight back out to finish his work.
Erik opened the door, and walked out, walking past some of his comrades who were talking among themselves. The chore boy started to make his way to his mop, and bucket, but on the way he noticed Vaetric once more who was look towards the mast of the ship, possibly looking to clean it. The green haired marine was just about to turn his head around until he caught Meri jumping, but what really caught his attention was what happened just as he touched back down on the ground. Dubois stopped in mid walk, eyes widened at the...jiggling. Dubois sort of imagined that Vaetric was a bit heavy down there the first time, but now...just wow. Erik shook his head seconds later, knocking himself out of this trance he gotten himself into yet again, and decided to speed walk towards his mop, making sure not peep in the blond's direction again.
Geez....
Now, Erik went back to mopping, which is something he should have been done with, but due to reasons, never got to focus on it. Fortunately, he did make some progress earlier, so there wasn't much left to mop other then an area by the railings. Erik started to hum to himself as he made his way to the next spot, failing to see Meri over there preparing to clean the railing. After some time, Erik was FINALLY finished with his cleaning. He rubbed the back of his head against his forehead, wiping off any sweat that formed up there. After that, he begun to stretch a bit, thinking about what to do next. Perhaps some more training? Maybe pick up that book of his, and hope he remembers the number? Or most importantly...get that hat clean!! The pondering Dubois placed his mop against a wall, and continued to stretch a bit, leading his head to once again turn in the direction of the nearby Vaetric whose...rump met his gaze yet again. Dammit not again! Erik knew exactly what he was doing, but couldn't tear his attention off of it. It was in fuller view compared to before. Hormones...one of a man's greatest enemies, and they were at play right this moment. He didn't even notice Vaetric speaking, or looking over to him at this point until it was too late. Moments after Meri finished, Erik slowly looked towards the blond's face, it finally clicking just what was happening. "D-uhh...Errr..ye..." Dubois bit his lower lip after, trying to think of something to say. This was definitely bad...
"Uhh..yes! Yes, I am done...Very done in fact!!" he claimed in a sheepish tone, gesturing at the ground as if trying to distract Meri from what really was going on. He then started to force a laugh, one that wasn't all that great, or convincing.
This day....has turned out a lot more differently, then expected.

Erik seemed to be the awkward type to., every time he looked at him he seemed flustered by something. Maybe some more marines had been teasing him about whatever it was they did before. He did notice him gone for a few moments, though hadn't really noticed him returning until he glanced over to ask his question. He watched Erik stumble over himself and stutter, though he couldn't relaly judge him for it, Vaetric stuttered just as much as he did, after all. " Then we should start cleaning below deck, right?" He asked, detatching himself from the railing as he placed the spogne back into the water bucket. The water had begun to look a bit dirty, though. " Uh.. But first, I guess I should get some cleaner water." He ask, glancing around, then crouching down and liftign the bucket back up a little. He expected it to weigh more, really, but it was still a bit annoying, being made of wood, filled with water, and having a handle that meant he couldn't really hold it with one hand at his side. He looked around, moving to Erik's side to look for a well. Spotting one, he'd make his way down the plank, hobbling along with the bucket until reaching it. He was about to tip it over, before remembering drinking water was below. Instead he took the bucket and began to make his way back to the ship, stopping at the edge of the port and pouring the soap water into the sea, where it wouldn't be a bother for anyone. Now with an empty bucket, he'd make his way back to the well. There'd be another bucket for people to get water from, and he'd send it below, waiting until he heard a splash. Then he'd start lifting it up with a rope. Once raised, he'd place that bucket on the edge of his other bucket, pouring the water in. Now armed with a water-filled bucket, he'd move back along to the ship. He'd place the bucket down, huffing a little. " Uff.. Now to add the soap." He muttered, glancing around for it. It must be downstairs. Before he made his way under deck, he'd hear a voice. "Meri! You forgot your things." A marine said, walking up the deck, tossing his stuff onto the deck, then walking back down and away. Vaetric bit back a curse, he'd forgotten his things, which seemed to consist of a few books, a couple of spare pairs of clothes and some personal effects bundled underneath the former. He blushed a little as he bent over and gathered his things into his arms. " Uh.. I'll be back. With soap, uhm.. And put these away." He said, wondering how he'd know which beds were not taken. He then aimed to wander off down into the ship. " Uh.. If you know any place that is free, that would help a little." Word Count: 487 Total Wordcount: 3522 Vaetric's health: 35/36

"U-uhhh..."
He was not sure how he did it, but again it seems as Erik was able to escape from yet another...awkward situation. "S-SURE!" Erik yelled out in agreement without even noticing. At this point, Dubois wasn't even able to make eye contact with the oblivious Vaetric since it seems every time he does, his eyes begin to...wander. Blasted hormone! "Right, you go do that, V-Vaetric. I'll be...I'll be waiting right over here!" Erik claimed with hesitance in his tone, his body now facing away from the blond, sitting down on the ground. Erik was not really sure how to handle the situation other than just avoiding eye contact. But that of course was more of a temporary fix as he couldn't just avoid the guy forever. Not only did that option feel impossible, but it was also un-marine like! Erik should be able to look each, and every comrade in the eyes if he wishes to form better relationships with his mates. But that was something he could deal with later, not because he wanted to hold off on it, but...well mostly because of that.
Erik just sat there with his legs folded, and hands on his knees, looking out towards the docks. Some marines walked by, looking at Erik funny for obvious reasons. Some of them even whispered to each other. Strangely, none of them were using this as an opportunity to make fun of him. Maybe they were just not in the mood? Either way, this was still a good thing despite everything else going not the best of ways. A Marine walking by then caught Erik's attention. He appeared to have been carrying some things, and shortly after called out to Meri. Erik's eyes continued to follow him until they couldn't no more, leading him to turn his head where he saw the guy carelessly tossing Vaetric's belongings onto the ground before leaving. That was a pretty jerk move even for these guys who are known to not be light when it comes to teasing. Dubois watched his fellow Chore Boy make his way back up, and towards his things. At this point, Erik was not really worried about looking at him anymore, being more fueled by concern.
"O-oh wait." Erik ran a bit over to Meri before crouching down. If Vaetric would allow it, Erik would help him in getting his things together. Anything personal was the least of Erik's concern at the moment. He just wanted to lend a hand. Plus, he was suppose to be keeping an eye on him right? While he was helping, Erik noticed the books that were among the things. A reader as well perhaps? "I'm not sure what came over that guy...why he'd just toss your things like that." Erik claimed as he looked over to that marine who seemed to have been preoccupied with some others. "Don't worry, I'll help you out, a-and get the soap too right?" Erik claimed with a small grin before getting back up to his feet. He'd follow Vaetric to the lower deck where the sleeping area was. Erik walked past Vaetric, looking around at each bunk bed to see which wasn't taken. Left the right, every bed appeared to have been claimed, leading Erik to place a hand on his chin as he pondered, worried that he might not find a free spot for the blond. All hope was lost it seemed until Dubois finally stumbled upon an empty bed. "Oh, over here!" Erik gestured for Meri to come over. Just as he turned around to inspect the bed again, Erik noticed that this bunk bed actually belonged to him, or rather the top part of it. "Well what do you know. Looks like we're going to be bunk mates." he said, chuckling a little. "What are the odds?" he asked just as he started to climb up to his bed, picking up that book he needed to finish. "I guess I have somebody to talk to about books now." he said, waving his back and forth.
"But...I guess we should get back to cleaning, right?" Erik claimed, nearly forgetting. Guess it was silly of him to think that his work today would just consist of mopping.

Vaetric blinked as Erik ran over to help him. He glanced over to him, before picking up a few of his things that he could reach, mostly tyhe trousers, because he knew the udnergarments would be bundled up within them. Well, at least he didn't have to carry all of the books now, they could get pretty heft. He'd read most of them, but he brought a few that he knew he'd want to read again one day when he's bored. Reading for an hour or so before bed actually helped him sleep. He looked to Erik again as he spoke. " Oh.. Uhm.. He was probably told to come deliver them, and didn't want to.. Waste time, as I forgot them." He sighed. Vaetric blinked, he was also to bring the soap, he was sure it was a joke, but he may as well not make two trips. He placed most of his stuff into his left arm, then picked up the bucket with the right, resting it against his knee a little as he moved. It was kind of heavy, but he could keep it up for a little while, more than enough to find a new bed at any rate. They moved below deck, he followed Erik as they looked around for new beds. As they moved on and on, his heart dwindled a little. It felt like he was going to sleep on the floor at this rate, or have to share a bed. Or get a hammock. Getting a hammock was probably what was going to happen, really. He blinked as they actually managed to find a spare bed, below Erik's own, a bunk bed. He walked over as Erik had found the spare bed, placing down the bucket as he placed his things onto the bunk with a huff. He gave a small smile as Erik mentioned the odds of them having a bed, but really, it probably made sense to have everyone of the same rank sleep near each other for the sake of order, they can find anyone they need easily. " I guess it's kinda funny.." He nodded, playing along, he could always be wrong, after all. He blinked as Erik mentioned they had books to talk about, peeking over to Erik's own bed, noticing his book. " Oh! You like to read to!" He exclaimed. He wanted to pry what kind of books he liked, but it was probably better to continue working at the moment. " Yeah.." He nodded, picking up his mop as he looked around. Well, it'd probably be best to start with the floor. " Uh.. I'll clean up my things and put them away later, I'll start with the floor." he said as he started to clean around the edges again. He found that he couldn't quite clean underneath the bunkbeds well with a mop, he'd probably have to use a sponge and get underneath them later. He glanced to Erik as he worked. " Uhm.. I.. Like, uh, I like fantasy books. How about you?" He asked as he swished the mop around, leaving some room for Erik to do his own workload. He found he fairly liked Erik, he'd been polite enough consistently to be a nice person, his face looked so earnest. Plus, he sounded a little reserved like himself, albeit most likely less so. Erik was glad to hear the enthusiasm coming from Vaetric's voice as soon as books were brought up. He was also surprised too since before that, he seemed rather reserved, more so than the green haired marine. Unfortunately, they still had work to do, so the talk of books might have to be put on hold. Jumping back down onto the ground, Erik went to get his mop, and dipped it into the new soapy bucket. After that, he took it out, and started to mop his side of the area. As he did this, Erik couldn't help, but notice how messy a lot of these beds looked. Annoying how the others couldn't take the time out of their day to tidy up their own areas. Sadly it was just another chore on the list of poor Erik, so it was something he'd have to get to once he finished mopping.
The area fell silent as the two cleaned up. It didn't exactly feel awkward to Erik since he is use to not talking while working, but it did make him wonder how Meri felt. Seeing how timid he is, it might be the same way, but Dubois wasn't quick to assume...some times. "Hm?" It looks like the atmosphere wasn't going to stay quiet for long as Vaetric started to talk about his favorite genre. Looks like Dubois wasn't the only one itching to talk about this. "Fantasy is pretty cool." Erik claimed with a smile as he dipped the mop back into the bucket. Erik started to bounce the mop a bit inside of the bucket as he pondered about his favorite book genre, not really noticing what he was doing, or the small splashes he made. "Kind if hard to say. I just like a good book, ya know?" he said as he turned over to Meri, rubbing the back of his head. "Oh! I guess I could say I have a thing for science fiction. Read plenty of those, and never came across one I didn't like." Erik said with a grin as he pointed towards his bed. "I'm currently in the middle of reading one right now. It's pretty much about this group of intergalactic outlaws, sailing the cosmos, and getting themselves into some crazy stuff." Erik continued on as he took the mop back out of the bucket, and continued mopping. "Each member is pretty quirky, and have their own talents. They even have this one cool looking robot with sunglasses, and a racoon...dog thing as their...mascot? I'm sure it's their mascot." He claimed, chuckling a bit. "I'll let you borrow it when I'm finished reading it. Though, this isn't the first volume, so their might be some stuff you'll be lost on." Erik rambled on, and on, not noticing that this entire time, he was mopping one single spot. "O-oh!" is what he said once he finally noticed, looking over to Meri with a sheepish grin as he scratched the side of his cheek. "Guess I got a little carried away there. Sorry about that."
Soon, Erik would finish up his spot, and begin on working on these damn beds. It was pretty annoying. Hell all of this chore work was honestly, but at least he had somebody to talk to this time around. Fortunately that someone had similar interests as him!

Vaetric nodded to himself slightly as Erik spoke about books, blinking a bit as he began to speak in more depth about the one he was reading. It seemed a bit interesting, though he'd never heard of a raccoon before. Was it a kind of animal-person? Most likely just an animal, since he likened it to a dog. Erik then checked himself, before noting he'd gotten a bit carried away, Vaetric couldn't help but smile a little wryly, trying to quash it as soon as possible. " Uhm.. Yeah, it sounds.. Interesting!" He said, trying to make up with his hesitation with a perk-up at the end, bouncing up a little, though found that it didn't really suit him. Though it was a little embarrassing to do so, he felt he could safely do it around Erik. He just had that warm personality that he could get used to. " Uuuh.. I have some science fiction books.. But I mostly prefer fantasy. The one I'm reading now is about people who can eat metal, and gain different powers from different types. I wonder if people can actually do that in real life, though.. Devil fruits, though they're probably just as.. Uhm.. Fictitious as the book." He sighed. Finishing up on the floor, he made his way back to the soapy bucket. After a slight peer around, he noticed he'd been the one to clean up the entirety of the floor. He felt just a little twinge of annoyance, before noticing Erik had begun to clean the beds themselves, so he guessed that evened them out a bit more, though he'd probably have to start helping him soon. But first, he just needed to clean underneath the beds. Taking the sponge, he squeezed it above the bucket to remove excess water, before clambering down with a huff. He didn't really like kneeling all that much, he didn't understand how people could do it for hours, it hurt his knees. He moved his upper body down further so he could see underneath the bed before he started to swab the floor beneath. He felt a little bit embarrassed, he could feel his trousers straining a bit, but he was faced away from Erik and the doorway, so that should be fine. He moved along, cleaning the underside of beds, though he couldn't quite reach the far end. He'd rather do that endeavor alone. " Uhm.. If you want, we can bookswap some time.." He said to Erik, continuing to remove dust, clean his sponge, rinse it and squeeze it, then get back to work. " I've got a few more books if you're interested.. One of them is about a space Empire that doesn't like people that aren't human, though it's mostly written in parody. Uhm... Another fantasy one is where people can use light to make things depending on the colour, like, red can make flames and the like." He continued idly, crawling along hte floor as he made his way past each individual bunk, giving Erik an apologetic look each time he may have displaced him to clean. Finally, after his knees ached to the point where he yearned to be able to just sit down, he finished and stood up finally, patting himself off. But he couldn't exactly relax, the Captain could come at any moment, really. He moved over to Erik to see what he was doing, then moved to aid him with the rest of it, should there be any left. " One day I want to have a look above the clouds." He sighed. Wordcount: 598 Total Wordcount: 4697 Vaetric's health: 35/36

Erik couldn't help, but to snicker at Meri's little bounce up at the end. It felt very out of character for someone like him, but then again Erik shouldn't really think much about it since he pretty much did just meet him, so there was a lot he still didn't know about the blond. He'd be lying if he said it didn't look kind of cute, but of course that is something Erik is choosing to keep to himself. "Haha...yeah."
Dubois came up on a bed that was really messy. The sheets were coming off of the bed, and all unfolded, pillow was down on the ground beside a dirty sock while the rest of a dirty marine uniform remained on the top of the bed. The smell was definitely awful, but given how long Erik has been doing this, and tending to the laundry, the smell was almost natural to him....almost. With a sigh, Dubois first picked up the clothes, and placed them into a hamper to be cleaned later before heading back to the bed where he started to fix the sheets. At this point, Erik hadn't noticed Vaetric intending to under the beds, but could still hear him when he brought up books again. The first thing the blond started to talk about peaked Erik's interest. "Devil fruits huh..." Dubois said under his breathe. A special kind of fruit that is rumored to give those who ingest one strange abilities. Dubois has never seen one of these in person, so he wasn't entirely sure whether to believe in them, or not, but he has came across people who claimed to have seen them. "I'd like that a lot." Erik claimed with another smile. Once done with that bed, Erik would climb up to the bed at the top, and start with cleaning it, continuing to listen to the other chore boy. "Oh, a space emperor? That sounds really..." Before he could finish, Erik looked down from the top in hopes of seeing Vaetric, but once again was met by his...rear. It really had a habit of bouncing out. Erik nearly choked up on his words, but managed to look away as his face lit up a bit. "...huge...I mean...huge as in good!!" he claimed, referring to the book. He continued to work on the bed, trying to play it cool as if nothing happened, but couldn't help, but take a few shameful peeks from time to time as he listened to Meri ramble on and on like he did not too long ago.
After some time has past, Erik managed to finish up on a lot of the bunk beds, unfortunately leading to the hamper getting pretty full. He was now on ground level attending to another bed just as he heard footsteps approaching him. Erik looked up to see his fellow new blood coming by to help. The green eyed marine gave him a small, but welcoming smile before going back to doing his own thing. Despite the rough start, this definitely felt nice to have someone around like this. It was also surprising how nobody else has came down here for awhile. Probably for the best as they'd no doubt start up more teasing probably about the two...being alone. Erik quickly shook his head at the thought, banishing it from his mind. "Hm?" Erik then stopped what he was doing, and looked up at Vaetric with an eyebrow raised at his little comment about the clouds. What a strange thing to say out of the blue, but it wasn't at all the strangest he's ever heard. "Hoping to find a city up there, or something?" he asked. It was sort of meant to be a joke, but Erik was genuinely curious about it.
